Allam sounds like a decent and reasonable man.
Would it be an act of intolerance and fanaticism to pray and hope that such a man might someday convert to Christianity, perhaps even to Catholicism?

It would not even be an act of intolerance or fanaticism, I think, to pray and hope that such a man might avoid being assassinated by Muslim fanatics for publishing such a reasonable op-ed piece in the public newsmedia, defending the Pope's reasonableness and denouncing Islamic fanaticism. This is a courageous man. It is doubtless the likes of this man that the logic of the Pope's speech was intended to reach.

These are fine words, must have required a substantial amount of personal courage to be spoken. But Allam is no more typical of Islam than Leif Erickson. As a matter of fact, as a Viking marauder and murderer, Erickson is probably MORE typical.

"Islam is a great religion, and a peaceful religion" -- George W. Bush. If Benedict has said that his critique of modern jihadism as an unacceptable method and a betrayal of Islam would have been more effective.

What did you mean? I can't scan your sentence to figure out what it intended to say. As it stands, it lacks coherence and English grammar.

Father:
How could the Pope say that Islam is a great religion?
