All of Schubert's Masses omit these words from the Credo: "Et unam sanctam catholicam et apostolicam Ecclesiam."
No one knows why. But all his Masses, from his childish efforts to his great mature settings, simply leave these words out. No convincing explanation has been offered--all the explanations are unsatisfying in one way or another.
But they are usually considered unusable for the liturgy for this reason. I wonder why the FSSP is using one! :p
It wasn't the FSSP's choice. It was our music director's choice, for a variety of logistical reasons, including familiarity with this Mass by several of the musicians involved.
Hi Jeff, no words will be omitted in the credo at the liturgy in Windsor on Sunday. The line has been interpolated...therefore we are using a rehabilitated
version of the mass.
