My fav boeuf bourguignon comes from the Barefoot Contessa. I watched her make it on the food network and could smell it through the TV screen. Her book is called The Barefoot Contessa in Paris I think. I tend to make it for New Years if I've got friends over.

Susan - My vegetable garden is small too. I just put the pumpkin plant in a spot where some potatoes didn't come up. So there was a space to fill. The vines can take over the world, but one plant is okay.

That pumpkin looks wonderful. How much ground space did you need to give those plants for 3 pumpkins? I think that's why I don't try it - garden is too small.

Ma - The dinner WAS fantastic! I'll cook for you sometime!
Sally - In our corner of the world, there were fields of wheat that couldn't get harvested. It rotted in the fields. Good thing we're a nation good at importing stuff or we'd starve!
Shammy - BB was wonderful but it does take a long time to make. Start the day before.
Mrs K - If there is no sun, stuff just won't grow. No matter how I try. I have had raised vegetable beds in the past.

Try raised beds for your veggies - better drainage, less stooping and it does seem to work. Tom Thumb tomatoes in hanging baskets have been brilliant. Mind lots of green ones - so chutney coming up.
How about Osso Bucco (spelling) I love it and it takes ages.

I went to see the Julie and Julia film, and got somewhat inspired by all the French cooking and decided to look up the boeuf bourguignon recipe on the internet, which I have done, but haven't tackled it yet. Perhaps this weekend.... it will be Canadian thanksgiving weekend, when everyone id full of turkey, so perhaps BB will be a nice change.
Sorry to hear about your wet summer, we had the same experience here, but September made up for it with sun and blue skies.

My question is, what did the Scottish grow to eat if it keeps raining all the time? I assume most of the produce you get in the grocery store comes from far off lands...
