On a metro (or: subway?) train in Kyiv:
Me > I wonder if the next carriage is less crowded?
Karilynn > You Brits call it a carriage?
lol.
Happy New Year, Tom and Nic... also, many greetings from Sasha & Zora (+ baby Sasha, born 1 year + 1 day after Reuben) and from Sergey & Sveta. Just back from a New Year visit to Balta orphanage, Odessa and Kyiv. Tonight I might finish writing your Christmas card .... or one day soon, might even sign in to Skype!

Not sure Rachel, educated though she is, has been taught about being politically correct in 4th grade yet.
The thing about the 'little things' is that they are a constant reminder of my situation as a legal alien. I speak a different language. I easily forget, because American English is so similar to British English.
I don't think they get me down - I was delighted to laugh at myself in the above story - but even if you don't take them seriously, they are still real, and point to a real situation.
