Hey! Here it is not called Boxing day, it is called Second Christmas Day. The Dutch pretty much lost the whole upstairs-downstairs-servants -lifestyle (which did as you said, originate the whole Boxing Day thing) right after the Golden Age.
First Christmas Day(25th) is usually spent with your spouse and kids, if you have them. The Second Christmas Day (26) is when you go visit the in-laws, parents, grandparents, adult siblings, or often all of them at one of their houses. It is a very busy day for those hosting Second Christmas Day with lots of shopping and planning and cooking. It's much more formal than First Christmas Day.
Which reminds me Colleen, we're invited to Marco's mom's house with the kids and Marco's two brothers, their wives and all of their kids too. In Limbourg. As soon as you land! I better call you . :D!
