Comparatives aren't going to work in this situation. Emma was as important to you as a child is, I'm sure (and I suspect more important than the place some people accord their children).
I keep thinking about this... and I still cannot understand. But, you're right, you do have the personal resources to work this out, what you write displays that so amply.
Still thinking of you, and hoping you find some peace very soon.

Your grief is so deep because you had a personal relationship with Emma. The 50 children are not deeply rooted in you. And as Blue Witch said, comparatives don't work. You wrote eloquently about your grief. It is your grief. It should be as it is.

Oh Honey,
The tread is there. It's all about love. The love for a child or a pet, how can you measure it or compare it?
You greive because you love Emma.
Those parents greive because they
love their children.
Worldwide we greive for those
children because we love humanity.
Love is Love.
And all sorrow that comes from loss should be honored. It represents our ability to love. It dosen't count more because it's a human. or less because it's a animal.
Love is Love.
Emma is blessed to have you and
Mr. LaP's love.

Dear Colleen,
Thank you for revealing your grief and sharing it with us all.
Love lost is the greatest pain of all. Love that could have been, love that was, love that is and then removed leaves such an ache. The question of Where, Where Are You?
Emma left but the love never will.

No, no it won't.

It doesn't matter who you love, or how you love, but that you love.

Dear Colleen,
I hurt for you and Bob.
Getting "down the road" and just living one day at a time, I have begun to see how horrible things make us better and worse than we can imagine. Trying to find meaning in loss--loss of innocence, loss of pleasure, loss of a person or an animal to whom we have connected--is a walk we take every day. Some losses are greater than others, but with all, a part of us is left behind as the rest of us goes forward. No replacement for what is gone, yet courage to strive to find completeness again.
May peace be yours in the mornings, when you hear with your heart her bark, and at the end of day as dreams, of her running through the fields around your home, guide you gently into sleep.
Much love,
Kathy
