Santiago Dreaming

Gravatar That they were made by a company called "General Fireproofing" certainly bodes well for their longevity.

Lovely advert...."..as for the desk itself, it incorporates too many exclusive features to name here."...wonderful opt out for the advertising copywriter!

Gravatar I know, I can see him in my mind's eye:

The poor man is sitting in front of his typewriter as that moment of writing inspiration hits him.

Gloomy looking man: How in the heck am I supposed to list all the features they want me to? I've only got a limited amount of space!

Inspiration strikes: "I've got it!

He starts typing these words, ...'as for the desk itself, it incorporates too many exclusive features to name here.'

Then he went out and got drunk.

Gravatar One thing I have noticed about most US products, especially furniture, is that they are often made to a far higher build quality than their European counterparts. Everything seems more substantial and more generously specified. I speculate that this is down to a far more demanding consumer culture.

Gravatar Is Velvelium what you get when you let Velveeta harden?

Gravatar Doc, I'm not sure they are better build in general. The quality of the product depends on what you are willing to spend. I know people in Denver who would kill for an IKA store. I'm not surprised by the fact that our furniture is larger though. EVERYTHING is bigger here. I think that comes from being in a culture that believes bigger is automatically better.

Gravatar donna, that is one of the reasons why I do not eat Velveeta.

Gravatar It's my desk at work! The color is even right on!

I must admit, I am getting a new set up this next June, but wow! How amazing!

Gravatar Ren, you have one? Humm, maybe I should change that first line to read, "Yep, I bet there are hundreds of thousands of these..."

What are they going to do with the desk after the new one arrives? I've wondered where these things go to die.

Gravatar One of the professors bought it and is taking it home today actually.

I am rather happy to see it move on. I just didn't have enough room to spread out and do my work. When I did mailers I had to go to one of the conference rooms. It was a real pain.
