It was only yesterday that I heard on the radio that there is a huge problem over here with gangs of thieves nicking metal drain covers for their scrap metal value.
We are having the same problem here in the US. Thieves are stealing aluminum manhole covers and light poles along with the brass and copper parts from fire hydrants.
They're very nice. Great variety and well made by the look of them. Yours has an art deco feel to it - classy. Would look good polished up methinks. Domestic water metering is a relatively recent thing over here. Nearly all the meter covers I've seen are black plastic - not half as nice.
Funny, Doc, all the ones I see in apartment buildings in denver have those plastic ones. This type is very old and I think they look classy too. Industrial design is one of my most favorite art areas.
