Santiago Dreaming

Gravatar I thought you were going to say that you got arrested for being where you shouldn't with equipment to break and enter. That's what would happen over here...

Gravatar Since the building is open at the back I think the only thing they could have got us on was trespassing.

We reported the trapped bird before we went over there and the Chief of Police showed up while we were there. He had never been at the back of the building before and was shocked by the condition it was in. He said he would see what he could do to get it condemned and torn down. It is really a safety hazard.

Gravatar I am so impressed! Such a nice thing for you both to do and I'm so glad you did NOT fall in any holes.
Bravo!

Gravatar The Chief of Police showed up for a bird? Wow, I am amazed.

Last week I had cause to dial the emergency number to report a road accident on an untreated road (the only road of 4 into here open, which was blocked with 20+ cars) with an inch of ice, where there was a serious risk of assault due to the attitude of one of the people present, and I was told that it was not a police matter...

Gravatar Colleen- Why thank you. I will pass your comments on to my husband.

BW- Not that unusual for the Chief. It is a small town and if no one else is available the Chief steps in.

Your story is extraordinary. How can an road accident and the threat of assault not be a police matter. Who did they think you should call?

Gravatar Apparently the Highways Department, who'd already repeatedly failed to grit the road.

I haven't put in an official complaint becuase I was told, by an understanding and helpful lady, when ringing a council helpline to find out who to complain to, that, "I can't tell you this officially, and I can only tell you becuase we don't record calls to this nubmer, but, I wouldn't if I were you... they keep records of people who complain about things like that these days and you really don't want to be on that..."

Big Brother is alive and well. Most people just don't realise how bad it is.

Gravatar .."they keep records of people who complain about things like that these days and you really don't want to be on that..."

This statement tells me more about her fears than anything else. People who are cowered and afraid to speak out make the system run smoother for those perceived to be in charge but we citizens are really the ones with the power. Freedom of speech is our most important right. I truly believe that one person speaking out gives ten other people the courage to do so too. When people are afraid to speak up the bullies take over.

(Hey, I just made a speech. I must be channeling my mother today.)
