I am convinced that the base problem for Christians who struggle with these sins is that they love themselves or their sin more than they love God. The first commandmnet is to Love the Lord our God with our entire being. All other affections must be less. Also, we cannot Love God and love the world at the same time. Loving the world entangles us in sensuality and fleshly pursuits and when we do that our love for God is displaceed.

Gravatar Mike,

You've hit the nail on the head. God has been so merciful to us. When one truly sees his sin in the light of God's grace, one can't help but respond with a heart of love and a desire to please God. Of course, a big part of pleasing God is obeying what He has commanded.

I don't believe this is in conflict with the work of God's grace in us, but is instead a natural result of it. The former produces the later. If not, then one must wonder why. "... he who has been forgiven little loves little." - Luke 7:47b
