Gravatar Letterman's too ignorant, by his own admission, to have a "leftist agenda". His "ambush" is tame compared to what O'Reilly does to some guests on his show. Simmer down everybody.

Gravatar Greta -

I got a different take from the guest spot. From the outset, O'Reilly seemed to try and lighten things up and break the ice. Letterman played along for a bit, then tried to bait O'Reilly, who was not going to let ol' Dave get away with it.

While I was unhappy with Letterman for pulling such cheap shots - ("60% of what you say is crap." and "why not let Ms. Sheehan say whatever she wants, she has earned the right."), I was pleased to see that his audience was not entirely hostile to Bill, who got some laughs and applause himself.

And finally, while I don't always agree with O'Reilly, it took some stones to go on that show.

BTW Greta, thanks for the link and CONGRATULATIONS! You have just joined my BLOGROLL as well!

Gravatar Well said, Richard!

Gravatar Cheers, Richard!

Gravatar Greta,

> I love Bill

Even though he lies?

Gravatar Not surprisingly, the interview was contentions. What was surprising was O'Reilly's poor performance defending himself and his beliefs. He could barely keep up in an exchange on...Cindy Sheehan!?!!??!?

What O'Reilly should have said:

Over 2,000 American soldiers have died in Iraq, Dave. Can you name one of their mother's besides Cindy Sheehan? Why is that? Dave, you don't know anything about Cindy Sheehan. Do you know the name of her son, who gave his life? No? Did you know that he reenlisted? No? Did you know that she calls the very same people who killed her son "Freedom Fighters"? These are the same people who blow up children and aid workers, Dave. "Freedom Fighters", Dave. I have not lost any children fighting in Iraq and my heart goes out to all who have including Ms Sheehan. But I do know this - I would not call those who have killed over 2,000 American soldiers, thousands of innocent Iraqis and killed MY son "Freedom Fighters"...and this is the one Gold Star mother's name you know. Shame on you, but mostly shame on the media that created her.

Gravatar Observer, though I do say O'Reilly showed class - he went on with an agenda in place. He even had a paper about it in his pocket. I love Bill, but felt if he wanted to discuss politics and not light-hearted stuff - he shouldn't have gone on Letterman.

Gravatar Why are you equating O'Reilly's response to Letterman's ambush attacks?

Clearly Letterman had an axe to grind, and came off ignorant, angry, and uninformed.

O'Reilly, who I dislike, showed class and grace in the face of Letterman's repeated attacks.

Gravatar In terms of who 'won' or 'lost', why should I care? That's silly cheerleading on the part of politically desperate people. To his credit, Letterman has O'Reilly on live, whereas O'Reilly cuts and snips his exchanges with people to make himself look better. I only had to watch a bit of it before I came to some nonsense:

O'Reilly: "This simplistic stuff about hating Bush or "he lied" and all this stuff does the country no good at all."

Artfully, he tried to put that in the context of Iraq. But determining whether a president deceived us into a war is good for the country. Presumably, it's as 'worth it' as was impeaching a president over lying about his dalliance with an intern. OK, maybe it's slightly more important.

Gravatar Further proof why I say, "Celebrities" are "butt boils"...just too painful to tolerate. Lancing and alcohol is the treatment..(100 proof works well).

Gravatar My wife suggested that we record it on the DVR. I'm glad we didn't now. I do watch O'Reilly almost everynight. Enough said.
