الرأي في مسألة اعتقال عبدالكريم لا علاقة له بالاختلاف أو الاتفاق معه في مقالاته وأفكاره. أنا مثلا إعترضت على اعتقاله وحرصت على أن أحتفظ برأيي في مقالاته لنفسي،ولو أردت أن أتناقش في أفكاره سواء بالاتفاق أو الاختلاف فسأفعل ذلك في مساحة مختلفة - لسبب بسيط وهو أنه حر في أن يعبّر عن رأيه في أي دين أو موضوع، وأنا حر في أن أتفق أو أختلف معه، الاتفاق والاختلاف لسيت قضية الساعة بالنسبة لي، وإنما (حرية) الاتفاق والاختلاف والتعبير عن الرأي أصلا.
أما من يعترضون على اعتقاله ثم يعلنون قرفهم من شكله أو أنهم مختلفون معه تماما أو أنه يجب أن يُعاقب على ما قاله طبقا للقانون ( آل يعني قوانينا تحمي حرية الرأي أصلا)، وكأنهم يغسلون أياديهم بعد أن تبرّزوا، فهؤلاء في رأيي جزء من المشكلة التي نواجهها، وهي عدم الإيمان بحرية الرأي - حتى لو ادّعوا (أو ظنّوا) أنهم يؤمنون بها.
من الملاحظ أيضا أن عبدالكريم لم يوجه إهانات شخصية لأحد، ولم يدعوا للقتل والدمار، ولا لقطع رؤوس الناس، ولا لتفجير الأوتوبيسات والمطاعم وأماكن العبادة على رؤوس مرتاديها، ولذلك فلا أجد في كلامه إعتداء على الآخرين أو تهديدا لهم يستوجب التفكير في إنزال عقاب به، وإنما هو يعبّر عن رأيه في مواضيع متفرّقة (وليس فقط الدين اللإسلامي) بشكل صريح ومباشر

It is not true that most Egyptians practice female circumcision. May be a minority is doing that. I'm a doctor (Surgeon) from Egypt. I come to see and know but very few cases during my practice and from my social relations. I get to know that few people do practice that and that, this non-religeous- ritual is contiuously declining. So please do not exagerate the subject and make it a mean to attack Egyptian society and Islam. It is not Islamic. It is pharonic practice and it has been practiced by black Africans thousands of years ago. Go an look at the scientific medical literatures and you will know.
I do not support the imprisonment or censorship of Karim. However one must question his knowledge when he is said to criticize Islam quoting honor killings and genital mutilation as the cause. Where are the roots in Islam for that?
The name for female circumcision in medical terms is pharaoic circumcision, and it is so for a reason. It is barbaric and does not belong to the practices of humane peoples.
Nevertheless, although he appears to have good intentions though at times (not always) ignorant and misinformed about the facts of his dislikes, I do hope he gets released for it is unacceptable to put him behind bars for speaking his mind.
In Islam theres no where stated of female circumscion.Its the practice of their own culture and traditions and traditions shld not be confused with religion.People who havent read the Holy book should not believe what Mr Karim is stating as i ve read.If you want to learn about the religion ,one shld read Quran.If Mr. Karim is found guilty of falsifyin the religion,he shld be punished according to law.
i agree with all who said that circumcision is only tradition and pharonic and not related to islam and u can read qur'an to prove that it is right and also there is no ' honor crimes' now and it was also only tradition for the poor illiterate people of egypt and some countries but not all
i respect freedom but i believe in limits also. he exceeded his limits and he should be punished

Kareem doesn't become a criminal by spoken words alone. It is those who do the "DEEDS" of so called "Honor Killings" and "Female Gential Mutilation" that are criminals.
