I totally agree with you

I disagree in many ways: though many acts done by muslims are terrorist acts but many other acts which are resistance against western opression are called terrorist by many thaugh they are not.
for example i would blame islamist to not have fought or at least pointed at the massacres and torture done by arab countries (like syria and irak)... but this does not mean that i wouldn t be enraged when somebody insults the quran or when i know about abou ghraib.
I don t think that any one should give up his principles in order to be liked by others. if they hate us screw them i am not gonna change who i am.
most of arabs are wrong because they would love saddam just because he is against the americans.... being against american policies is not wrong but supporting everybody (like saddam) against it is wrong.
I don t care about our image in the west because all what the west cares about is its interest: the supported jihad of afghanistan, they supported saddam until 1990 though tens of thousands of kurds were killed by chemical weapons in 1987.... and they are still supporting horrible regimes in the gulf (k.s.a kuwait...) for oil.
and americans themselves don t care about what happens to us: they would vote for bush if he can make oil cheaper and there conscience will fire back only when us troops die. they don t care about the iraqi's...
so why should i care about my image in the west.....
what i have to do is to improve muslim thinking about many points you pointed out but not for the sake of our image in the west but for the sake of us surviving together in a tolerant society

I agree with your post, and I'm glad someone said it. Muslims need to start to be a bit more accepting of other people, I think. The hatred of Israel and Jews is endemic to the religion, and many people rightfully disdain Islam for all of the intense hatred that is directed against Israel, the West, India and whoever else isn't a Muslim.

Gravatar Speaking as an American myself, I understand the stereotype you are talking about... but I honestly think my people are worse than yours about endorsing violence against people unlike themselves. Things can get pretty bad over here.

Thank you though for putting a perspective on what it is like for you...in the mist of all this...

Gravatar I agree with you. In fact, as an infidel who has read the Koran, I think thay every honest Muslim could figure out why we infidels look at Islam with suspicion. Remember what the Koran says about us (the surra Mohammed and the phrase "cut off their heads" is enough). Is it strange that many Muslims, while not terrorists, are electorate of the terrorists? The strange thing is that when Muslims demand from us respect to their holy book that does not respect our right to live, they rarely realize that this is double standard.

Gravatar Have anyone stopped to think how the danish people feel about having millions of angry muslims threatening them, burning their flag, beating up people?

The danish people had nothing to do with the cartoons, yet they are being targeted; by people who is frustrated that thet themselves are being targeted through their prophet... This doesn't seem right!
The muslim world should demonstrate their anger, peacefully, against the newspaper - but have shown to the world, the lack of tolerance and ability to look at oneself! It is now known by anybody in the world, that muslims regularly prints antisemithic cartoons much worse than the muhammad cartoons: The hipocrasy is very evident, yet the muslims just keep burning in their uncontrollable anger...
Nobody really understands your reaction; though we talk nice to you to try to calm you down - like you talk to a child thats having a fit!

Cant you see you are hurting your religion?

Gravatar I hope muslim know That Denmark where the first to help Palestina
An Denmark are the best in the whole world to give aid

Maybe we should boycott the muslim world the next time there will be a suied attack
Fair enough i think

Gravatar Only the return back of Palestinians to their home country will stop the hatred of Moslims to Israel. Without this, not even a milion blogs like yours can acheive any change.

Gravatar Greetings Readers,

I am a new reader, from the United States (oregon). I apologize for not having a more thorough knowledge of this thread, and admit I cannot read the arabic text on this particular page.

I take the "they" in 'why do they hate us" to mean the west, AKA the United States. As an inhabitant of the United States, I would like to offer that "we" don't hate "you", per se... This is an incredibly complicated issue to try and touch on with a short entry, but I would like to assert that the differences between us are artificially amplified. We can blame goverments, religious leaders, misunderstandings, etc. But, the true divide, it seems to me, is that the grievances that our peoples seem to have against one another are hugely distorted and amplified by the larger interactions (governments, etc) taking place.
I, and everyone I know, do not want your children to go without food, without hope in their lives, or to die. Sure, there are ideological differences, and there are actions taking place which seem to make both sides of this divide seem like monsters. I assert that "we" do not want this.
I have come to learn that my casual knowledge of geography and history are ill equipped to understand the actions and motivations of your region. I do not mean offense, but I am being honest: I do not understand ALL of the hatred for Isreal.

Understand that I am not asserting they are a race/government that is beyond reproach and has never done anyone harm. All I am saying, and I promise you I speak for alot of americans, is that we do not understand why you hate them. Myself, I have been learning recently why. My suggestion is that you strive to educate us why you have hostility for them, and do so without assuming that we are blindly adhered to them.

Again, this is a grossly inadequate space to post "our" side of things, but I ask that you consider, on a larger scale, that most of our conflict is that of ignorance--we don't understand why you are fighting.

I am sure that we must not seem it to you, but we are an incredibly feeling people. If you could just bring your side of things to us, as a people, instead of allowing us to rely on mass media and what our leaders (who are obviously motivated by a need to call us to arms) are bringing to us, things could be different--and without so much senseless bloodshed.

I do not want to hate you. I do not want you to hate me.

Gravatar I agree with you. People like you are good for Islam. I do not understand why islamist (no muslims) get angry when they are called violents and they complaint burning churches or embassies...
bye!

Gravatar You wrote:
That post was about why the Muslims' image is not so good in the West, and why people in the West generalize when talking about Muslims, especially in the media, as if all Muslims are terrorists.

How about the Copt image? Tell us why the leader of the Copt race, Pharoah Shenouda III has not apologised for enslaving the Arab Muslims and their Prophet Moses(PBUH) in Egypt?

Even after 2000 years you refuse to acknoledge your enslavery which the Quran tells us clearly and genocide on Muslims by your ancient Pharoah (whose name I forget) who tormented Prophet Moses(PBUH) and the Arab Muslims who by the grace of Allah(SWT) crossed the Red Sea by a miracle.

Copts are guilty of collective guilt. This is because you, arrogant Copts murdered many Arabs and this is why the Islamic armies invaded Egypt under Caliph Umar and destroyed the Copt race reducing you to a mere minority, just 1 million.

Gravatar Many of the points made in this blog are good ones. Muslims seem to make no effort to understand or relate to people outside their small cultural, religious sphere. This is unfortunate. It's even more unfortunate that in the US, more and more "new Christians" are doing the same thing. ISOLATION DOESN'T WORK!

The part not mentioned, but equally important is information that is given to all people. While the western media can be blamed for not making the effort to really follow the life of a typical working Muslim, so that we can see how the average Egyptian or Jordanian or Syrian lives their life.... there are still clear and unmistakable images of hatred from many parts of the Muslim world. And Muslim media outlets are no better; they hide information too!

That said, it seems many Muslims provide implied support for all of the horrible bus bombings, market bombings, etc. I understand that Israel too, has done some terrible things to the Palestinians (not all Americans believe in what Israel does to "defend itself"). BUT, it is a very sad day indeed for the human race, when people think it's OK to jump around and dance in the street when 20 Israeli civilians are slaughtered for going to the wrong cafe on the wrong day... or western troops die on the side of the road in Iraq.

The big difference between Muslim thinking and western thinking is this: when Muslims disagree with another persons religion and politics, and that person dies in a terrible way, many seem to celebrate or find reason to be happy. In the west, this isn't so. If a group of vocal Muslims in an American city died in an attack, there would be no Christians in the street laughing and dancing and celebrating. Even if Bush doesn't care, most Americans have a basic respect for the well-being of others. We don't cheer when innocent people die.

And while some Americans clearly do not make an effort to see our part in creating the problem (we should not support Israel in every case and we should not be fighting anywhere other than Afghanistan), there are *millions* of us who do make that effort to truly understand. We openly criticize people like Bush every day, and feel sadness when we read of civilians killed in Iraq, or Palestinians whose homes were bulldozed, or Lebanese whose apartments were blown up. And I do the only thing I can: I write to my congressmen, I write in blogs like this so people understand Americans better, and I try to vote losers like Bush out of office.

We are all human beings, trying to understand where we came from and why we're here. That some of us or our parents came to different conclusions about those questions is irrelevant. We are all capable of sympathy and understanding; it's up to each of us to stop and ask ourselves if we've really tried to do that today or if we just pretended like it was "the other guy's fault".

Gravatar I am not qualified to speak about the situation in Muslim countries, but in the USA, much work needs to done, and I would lay a good deal of the blame on the media, which keeps most in USA uninformed.

About a year ago, a test depicting all the horrible crimes of "Muslin male extremists went circulating, so I have produced a counter-test, here:

Gravatar we hate you or your policy beacause you're colonialist and imperialiste...just like the french when they resist to the nazis occupation...all means to resist are good...Ben Mehidi an algerian chief resistant : have said publicly to the french army when they catch him: gime us your planes and tanks and we were ready to give you ours explosif coffins....don't be silly the inequal force situation is the base of the hegemony!

Gravatar Ibrahim Arnakis, you are stupid.

Moses is a prophet for the Christians, too. And in the time of the pharaos there were no Christians. You obviously confuse the coptic christianity with an old egyptian religion.

Shenouda 3 is a POPE not a PHARAO
