Wow, I knew Geraldine Ferraro was deranged, but damn...she needs medical attention.

That dig against Bob Herbert was just off the wall. I watched that and thought, "Oh my God, she is just making shit up." It looks for all the world like she went on national television without even having thought once about what she was going to say.

I think Geraldine was thinking of someone else. Take your pick who. There have been plenty. If you doubt it, Bob Somerby has the full, ugly chronicle.
However, Auto, you are correct. Anyone who truly believes in Democratic principles is bug-eyed nuts if they think voting for McCain or not voting at all will help save the party from the madness of Barack Obama. Although I supported Dodd first, then Edwards, then Clinton, and although I still support Clinton, come November I have no problem whatsoever touching the screen for Obama (like they're actually going to count my electronic vote, anyway).
Much of this... backlash... was caused by the labeling of the Clintons as racist. I believe those charges were either fabricated or achieved by the most torturous of language parsing to achieve the desireable result of separating the Clintons from their black supporters. Obama couldn't have won as long as roughly 40% of black voters were still supporting Hillary. So it was brilliant political tactics. It worked. They took away one of the Clintons' greatest strengths. The Clintons should have been prepared for it, but they weren't.
So I say, so what? If Obama can do that to the Clintons, he can do the same thing, or worse, to McCain. One of my biggest concerns about Obama was whether or not he would fight. Clearly, he will. I would still prefer Hillary, because my personal belief is that on policy issues, they are so close as to be virtually identical, but I believe HIllary is better prepared to begin tackling the hard issues we face. Her presidential learning curve is smaller than Obama's. That's why I prefer her.
But as I told a friend the other day, what if the roles were reversed? What if Hillary had won in a squeeker and Obama supporters were threatening to boycott in November? What would you be calling them right now?
The answer - whiny-ass titty-babies.

You know Jeffro, your comment made me as happy as I've been in a while.
Every blogger on this site has had a differnt idea about who will be the best candidate. At various points we've probably all been betting on a different horse. (is that Animalist?)
And yet we've not torn one another apart? The blog has slowed down a bit--- due to overextension, on my part, not politics--- but its never been in danger of crumbling while its minders duke it out like WATBs.
I guess its because we're all white males...
Oh wait, CPL... She's neither white nor male, and was initially pulling for Edwards, as I recall.
We'd probably get more hits if we were at each others throats day in and day out, looking like the going narrative, and giving good bloodsport.
But I really like our dirty fucking hippie enclave .
I support Obama, but totally agree with your reasons for stnding by Hillary. They were mine untill it really sunk in that the biggest head start is useless if you're on the wrong path. And in regard to Iraq and and a handful of other dealbreaking issues (for me), she has been.
If those aren't dealbreakers for you ... or the notion of Harold Ford Jr. in a cabinet post... or any general re-empowerment of the 50%+ 1 DNC machine doesn't turn your stomach a little... Why wouldn't you vote for Hillary?
And why wouldn't anybody who believes in core Democratic ideas support her in November if she's the candidate?
Principle?
After eight years of Dubya anybody who'd stay home of vote for Bushco's 4th term doesn't know the meaning of the word.

Jeff, I checked out that website, and I found it to be, uh...
Let me put it like this. I'm not taking pointers on sexist language from someone who uses terms like "gang-bang" to describe the debates when Hillary was the frontrunner. I don't actually care enough about all these silly insults to get offended by them, but let's have a little consistency here. Comparing someone to a rapist because of their gender is no way to open a discussion about sexism.
If you've got a direct link to whatever it was Ferraro was talking about, I'll be more than happy to correct the post to reflect the fact that she may have spoken in error. But reading the prose on that website leaves me with the sensation of having shards of broken glass zooming around inside my skull. I had to quit after the first two posts.

Today's Howler isn't particularly good. Haven't been in a while but I'm not used to seeing BS turn itty bitty matters of perspective into nightmarish visions of the great collapse of reason.

Auto, you do have a way with the prose that makes me swoon.
Unlike you, I can't vote for Hillary under any circumstances. She and Ferraro are playing the race cards when they didn't need to be played, and I think Hillary's channeling Karl Rove to the nth degree.
If she gets the nomination, I'm writing in my choice - because if this is how she conducts herself in the general, God help America with her hand on the chicken switch.

And, yes, my initial support was for Edwards, because I was hoping he'd make Obama and Hillary cancel each other out.
Ferraro's a bitter old hag who's still angry that the Democrats blame her for Mondale not getting the White House back in 1984.
Their timing was off in terms of making history, as I recall; and that's the only reason Ferraro was given a place on the ticket. But seeing as how she regards the members of my race, not to mention slandering Bob Herbert (who's the only reason I even pay attention to the NYT these days), I wouldn't elect her dog catcher.
