I hate to be picky, but I'm annoyed by Thomas's reference to the River City. Memphis is the Bluff City. Louisville is the River City.
Geez, you'd think she's not even from Memphis.
Umm... I hate to disagree, but compared to the Mighty Mississippi, that little dribble next to Louisville isn't a river.
I didn't say that Louisville deserved to be named River City. I'm just saying that it's one of their more popular (if inaccurate) nicknames. I still think Bluff City is best for Memphis since it's the only one. River City is obviously too generic.
Then again, I'm writing this from Music City, so maybe I don't have a right to take issue.
I'm about to say something strange--- Mick Wright has a point. He linked to this and pointed out that Wendi herself treated this city like "chopped liver" when she did her "I'm going to Baltimore--- I'm coming back" thing.
Yeah, but like I said when she came back: we're stuck with her, but she's also stuck with us.
I would rather have her writing columns like that than not writing columns like that, so I'm going to cut her some slack.

So let's say I'm a cold blooded killer and an notoriously bad man. And let's say I finger a man who is every bit as bad as me or worse. Does the man I fingered get off scott free because he was fingered by a scumbag? Alas, hypocrisy has many twins.
Mick has a point, perhaps, But not a point relative to Auto's. Mr, Wright (who I too, have perversely agreed with on the rare occasion) likes to build straw men almost as much as he loves to bash them.
Besides, Wendi's story is more complex than that. From the perspective of a career journalist, a move to the Sun--as a columnist--is a big step up. And she--for whatever reasons-- shucked the big career move for Memphis (and, I'm sure, a sweetheart deal). That doesn't sound like chopped liver to me.
