I empathize! I have had similar interactions and I don't know how to respond to these idiots who either "can't decide" between Obama and McCain and those who would even consider McCain/Palin! And those who whole-heartedly support Palin/McCain make me want to get a handgun!
How can we respond to the dumbass people who voted for Bush and are determined to vote for McSame? Are they racists, bigots, stupid, or crazy?
Somebody give me some talking points before I hurt someone!

I agree with Bill Mahr, the American people are just STUPID! I don't trust them in the voting booth!
Maybe "democracy" is not such a good idea...

Frankly, I don't hold much hope for the future of this country until ordinary folks are willing to call their racist friends and neighbors racists to their faces. Also, to remind them that in voting for Palin they're pro-rapist.

Sir, you had the courage of your convictions, and you are to be applauded for calling bullshit when it so desperately needed to be called out.
Bravo.

randal, I completely agree. Many times Ive been talking with an acquaintance about something like volleyball or peanuts or concrete and they figure out a way to insert a racist proxy reference into it. So I have to figure out how to call someone a racist in the middle of what they still think is a pleasant conversation.
I haven't figured it out, so I don't, but I have to start.

Pesky, you're "obnoxious and not well-liked." With that said, good job.

Gates, having children around is helpful in those situations. Then you just say, excuse me, but I'm trying to raise my children right and I would appreciate your not indoctrinating them into your racist culture.

I suggest asking, "Is that really the way your mamma raised you?"

Of course, sometimes the answer is "yes," which is equally disturbing.

My problem is I have way too many friends and relatives who can't deal with reality. I mostly just bite my tongue. Although I will sometimes say, I can't reward 8 years of Republican incompetence with my vote.

Sometimes I feel like I'm in a horror movie in which everyone is turning into zombies. Even people I've known for years and respected have been changed. (or were they really zombies all this time?!) And you know how in old horror flicks, somebody sees their old friend, runs to them for help, and that person turns around with dead skin, yellow eyes, etc? In my nightmare come true, I see an old friend on Facebook, and she has McCain / Palin crap all over her page. Aaaaaghhhhh!
I try to not be judgmental, but I just plain can not respect anyone who is voting for McCain. It's that simple. My parents are included in that group. McCain supporters are idiots who are ruining our country and letting the scummy liars and cheaters win.

Although the language may have been a little harsh, the sentiment was right on. For all those who just "can't put their finger on it", the word racist fits. I believe we are losing at least 20 points due to racism. Luckily McCain keeps self-destructing and we are still ahead.

I also have to pass along that I saw an elderly woman on Saturday wearing a McCain/Palin T-shirt. It says: REFORM, PROSPERITY, PEACE. This is not a joke.

Reform, Prosperity, Peace.
Hmm, methinks we need a guerilla campaign. How about some t-shirts that look just like the one this woman was wearing, with "Who needs it?" added to the bottom.

I know this girl who told one of my friends that she can't vote for Obama because if he wins he will be assassinated, causing a national race war that will begin in Memphis, and since she lives in Memphis she just can't let that happen.
WHAT?
I can have a dialogue with fundamentalist idiots who have specific reasons, however naive those reasons, for voting Republican. However, when my only response is "I'm sorry, but that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard in my life," it becomes slightly more difficult to debate.
Now, if any of you would like to come talk to my next door neighbor who claims to be a liberal and a Taoist and all sorts of other things, is proud to have one black friend but is voting for McCain because he thinks "he just seems like a really nice guy," be my guest.

I was at work Saturday night and these two college republicans came in. They were from Ole Miss, wearing khaki shorts and polo golf shirts. They had McCain/Palin stickers and other republican paraphenelia. I'm not sure you can get less cool than being a college republican (even at Ole Miss). The entire staff started cracking on the guys and looking at them like they were from Mars. Those two were complete and utter douche bags.
There wasn't really any point to my store other just it's funny to mock republican douche bags.
