Nice post. One thing:

Aren't magnum primers harder as well? When I swapped the hammer spring out of one of my revolvers for a lighter one, I had trouble igniting 357mag ammo reliably, but I had no problems with .38spl. I assumed this hardness was to help withstand the higher pressures, like you mentioned with rifle primers.
