I joined USI, but then quit in two months after constantly being dropped from the 'Net. And it didn't appear to be a modem or antenna problem, as the modem always showed getting good reception.
I'm sure they're still ironing out problems; meanwhile, some of us need reliable connections. Hopefully USI's is someday, as I like the idea of citywide wireless. But the network still needs to catch up with the idea!
To me, interrupted connectivity is no connectivity. =(

Looks like they have updated the completion date on the web site to April 2008. Also, I checked my Macbook Pro last night and found the US Wireless Coming Soon network. I'll have to look around and find the transmitters.

The article testing the IPod Touch really makes me question the value of the network as a roaming wifi service. As the author points out, if you are going to sit down with your laptop you have many options that include free wifi. A devise like the Touch sounded like a way to have internet in your pocket without paying the extra fees for a cell phone data plan. It sounds like the author had fairly sporadic service. In his place I would probably stop trying after a while. A partial saving grace could be the distinctiveness of the "Mini Keg" antennas. Just look down the block for the closest antenna and go stand under it. I wonder if the author resorted to that.

Thanks for the continued updates. I have yet to see any sign of wifi in South East Minneapolis. No antennas and no signals on my laptop.
I was surprised to see the March completion prediction that they made earlier this month. With all the delays, I would have expected them to be more conservative.
Do you know if they are claiming to be finished? Maybe North East and South East Minneapolis will be declared "challenge areas" shortly.
Like you, I'm also very interested in Customer Satisfaction numbers. I had some problems with my cable internet service, but moved to DSL and it has been rock solid. I'd love to support this project and save some money, but I'm not sure I could accept much less then 99.999% reliable service. I have seen mostly negative reports online, but I also know that negative experiences motivate reports a lot more then positive ones.
Are you aware of a single location that a lot of people are reporting on their experiences?
Thanks
