Gravatar Well I've only been blogging about PR since February 2005 but my personal blog goes back to January 2003.

http://www.parmet.net/david/2003/01/

I've had an internet email address since 1993 if that counts for anything!

Gravatar I'm glad you posted this, Phil. I did not realize that you have been blogging about PR that long.

My error for not pointing that out in my comment at BW.

Gravatar I don't know if this means I need a life, but I didn't realize how early I had been.

I blame a friend for getting me involved in blogging, and then it took me another couple of months to actually do it (while also waiting for my corporate site to be up). Damn, I coulda been a contender.

It has been interesting to watch the PR blogosphere grow from a handful to now more than 300, with the professionalism and spinning that has come along for the ride.

Gravatar Incidentally, Constantin's first post in January 2004 means he narrowly missed this list

That's OK, I don't like lists, anyway I don't know if James Horton consider himself a "PR blogger" - but his "Tidbits and Thoughts" goes back to 2002:
http://online-pr.com/Online-PRThoughts/ OnlinePRtidbits_and_thoughts.htm

Gravatar If it doesn't really matter, then I'm not entirely sure what the point is, but hey ho.

I set my first PR blog up in May 2003 to support a talk I gave to some of our clients about blogs and reputation management.

I kept it up to date for a few months, but all I have left is this as evidence: http://web.archive.org/web/20030...coms.com/niall/

Can I still join the club?

Gravatar Niall,

The link is down, but I'll take your word for it! *8-)

Gravatar Cheers Phil,

If you get a "Sorry! There was an error" message, that's what I mean by all I have left as evidence. You'll see that my email address is there as webmaster contact though...

Gravatar Hi Phil,

Although my first post was a call to action to save one of the last traditional Lambic breweries in Belgium (got to respect priorities), my previous PR blog was up an running on 08/08/03. Here's the link: http://philsplace.blogs.com/ phil...rcenaries_.html

Gravatar November 1994
The Nub was created. I been clippin' nine nails instead of ten long before you people even knew what a blog was! Recognize foo!

Gravatar I started blogging at http://trevorcook.blogspot.com/ 2...ok_archive.html
on 20 November 2003 and then moved to my current location in February 2004

Gravatar I think another name missing from the list could be Richard Bailey at PR Studies (http://prstudies.typepad.com/weblog/)

His archive doesn't go back that far but I'm sure I remember reading Richard shortly after I started my PR blog.

Gravatar Gee, Phil, I could been a contender! One of my most popular and oldest postings on Buzz was called "Press Releases Must Die," dated December 7, 2000. (You can view it frozen in amber as a Google cache.) But I don't really qualify for two important reasons: 1. I killed Buzz long ago and 2. I'm a hack, not a flack.

Even though I practice journalism-by-roundup sometimes (only if my editor makes me. That's my alibi and I'm sticking to it), I agree that it usually sucks. These things can't be complete or comprehensive, it's just not possible. So instead you have to be very careful about how the list is described and know, in your heart, that some fine folks, including pioneers such as yourself--and I mean that sincerely--may get left out.

In any case, thanks for you posting your response to BW and startig this entertaining discussion.

Gravatar Sorry about the typos above, I was in a hurry.

Gravatar I read about blogging in a BusinessWeek cover story. Do I get any points

Gravatar For the record, my online journal was started Sept. 9, 2002. I didn't call it a blog at first, but the theme and topics of the haven't changed since the beginning. It was through the good offices of Constantin Basturea that I moved it to an official blog site at the beginning of 2004.

I will leave it to the experts to determine how this should be considered.

Gravatar Incidentally, Constantin's first post in January 2004 means he narrowly missed this list

Me too! Me too! Me too!

Christ, I find this tedious. (And I do understand where you're coming from Phil, I've been reading you long enough.)

Regards,

MS

Gravatar Marc,

Well... Let's put it this way...

Some folks take this in the spirit it was intended. (Esp. referring to the comments in the referenced post.)

Others make some pretty damn funny jokes out of it.

I'm still quite surprised by the reaction this got, honestly. And the "thank you's" I've received in some emails.

Now, if I had the time, it would be fascinating to see a complete PR timeline, charting the frequency of new PR blog introductions over the past four-plus years.

Gravatar Just to make sure, let me state for the record that I fully understood the spirit in which it was intended.

In fact, I'm pretty sure a huge chunk all the sillyness came from one blogger (Jeremy) needleing another (Steve).

Another part came from the BW's misundertanding/misuse of the word "doyen".

Anyways, I'd guess that Tom Murphy's blog would be the best starting point to create a complete timeline: he's the one who most often welcomed new PR bloggers into this little society of ours.

Regards,

MS

Gravatar Now, if I had the time, it would be fascinating to see a complete PR timeline, charting the frequency of new PR blog introductions over the past four-plus years.

Well, let's start compile one. I started a page at the NewPR Wiki for that: PR Blogging Timeline. I've included a link to the first posting of the G2Blog

Gravatar Hi Phil, would you like to get some french flavour in your time line...? ;o) My PR blog has been launched in august 2004, the 5th, it's a bit late compare to you in the US, but I was the first french PR blogger at that time... ;o)) the link on my first post: http://www.prthoughts.com/2004/ 0...ouverture_.html

Gravatar Thanks, Constantin!
