I just finished reading David Lindsay's Voyage to Arcturus. He had a lot of fun with his names. CS Lewis acknowledged an enormous debt to it (calling it Perelandra's "father"). What he changed, of course, was the overall taste of the book, from Lindsay's diabolical vision to a Christian one.
If you can track down A Haunted Woman and The Violet Apple, they are also well worth a look. The former was reprinted by Canongate fairly recently.
