Gravatar Y'know, I'm from the US, and I've been reading your blog lately, and it seems that we're not so different, you and I. I guess what I'm interested in here is what you call "insane psychological pressure in the education system." Being a stupid, ignorant American, I only have my own country's... eh... how should I put this?... "insane, consumerism-brand-name-based, corporately manufactured psychological pressure." How does that compare to schools in the UK?

Gravatar It means we are catching you up, mate.

Gravatar As a matter of fact, it's been a long time since I had any direct experience of the education system, but from everything I hear and read it's well on the way to corporate lunacy, with a bit of religious lunacy thrown in. The Conservatives sold off all the playing fields a long time ago, and now wonder why children are getting fatter and hanging around on street corners. New Labour seem to be under the impression that exams are an adequate substitute for tuition. The churches are cheating their way up the league tables, and children who do well (assuming the examining boards haven't cocked up the marking) are informed that standards have dropped.
