I suppose Thunderhorse, and other large deep water tertiary GOM finds don't count as "Major discoveries".....

Good point, Rorschach. The Peak oil types will only be satisfied with another Ghawar sized oil discovery.

In the meantime, petroleum engineers are quietly improving ultimate recovery amounts from mature fields, thus adding even more to proven reserves.
