While I'm happy that gays can get married (although none of our friends when we lived in S.F. had any thought of that, because it was so conventional, and, well, "straight") it creeps me out that Gavin Newsom is back on the viewscreen trumpeting this again. In 2008, a preznitial ill-ection year.
Gosh, when has he done this before? That's right, 2004, right in time to energise the hate-filled mouth-breathers for another election. Mrs. Bukko doesn't trust him a centimetre, because he's a pawn of the Getty Family/Nob Hill old money set in San Fran. She thought it was a Trojan Horse issue on behalf of the reich wing when he brought it up in '04. I disagreed, but now I'm in her camp.
I know it's the Cali. Supremes who made the decision, but I still see double-cross manipulation on Newsom's part. Every time I look at him (he gets some footage aired on the international news shows here) I see a rat.
I don't know enough about Newsom to make a judgment on that, but I know "the hate-filled mouth-breathers" are out getting signatures to try to make Californians vote on this in November.

You seem a bit agitated. What's wrong with allowing the people of the state to vote on the issue? Democracy isn't so bad, is it?
Jack, yes, in this case I am fired up for VERY personal reasons. I'm tired of my good Christian friends, who happen to not only be Good Christians, but Good Parents AND gay, being thumped over the head by strangers with Bibles. I don't want the worst of someone else's religion punishing my friends for the way they were born.
Democracy WAS a bad thing to the framers of this country. It's a republic, not a democracy, because they wanted their asses protected because they knew AS a minority (rich, educated, white businessmen WERE the minority then) that they needed protection.
Yes, I think it's great when the Constitutional interpretation actually works for the little guy.
I like what Bugliosi had to say about Bush V Gore, though.
From a local perspective let me add that the Goddamned Bible thumpers are just gonna keep dragging this into court, like the Mt. Soledad cross fight, you know?
