In elementary school there is this phobia of letting kids do anything unsupervised. It would be nice if I could send my class out my door and down two halls to music without me. I'm sure they could make it there without mishap if that was the school expectation.
Our school has a VVA--Very Visible Administrator. He seems to be everywhere: in the classrooms, on the quad, in the office. It's good to see a principal who makes his presence known.
