Gravatar Ironically, I was playing Thelonius Monk for class today while they were doing an activity on the Cuban missile crisis. No real connection other than the year...

Gravatar I use music all the time. Music soothes the savage beast. The Ride of the Valkyries is from a German composer by the name of Richard Wagner, from Saxony. My great-grandfather is from Saxony. Wagner has some powerful music. His only downfall is that he was Hitler's favorite composer and Wagner was an anti-semite. As far as Led Zepplin goes I was never a big fan, but the lyrics are pretty cool. It's amazing that the lyrics of songs from the 60s stand on their own as poetry. Check out Simon and Garfunkel and the Beatles. You can only shake your head at rap music. Music in class, you bet. I used it a lot when I taught the Vietnam War. The kids loved it.

Gravatar Instead of Gregorian Chants, try some renaissance guitar. Even as I type this I'm listening to From A Day Gone By, a renaissance guitar cd by Mark Abdilla. If you can't find it nearby, contact me offline and I'll see what I can do

Gravatar This is totally off topic: I'm considering a teaching position on the Navajo Nation. Darren at Right on the Left Coast says you once taught there. Could you give me some opinions and pointers? E-mail me at californiateacherguy AT gmail DOT com

Thanks!

Gravatar I teach 8th grade and we listen to music all of the time. Right now we are learning about the Great Plains and the Native AMerican wars. We listened to Bob Marleys Buffalo Soldiers. Most of the music we listen to is not nearly this cool.
