Hey Pommy,
I think there is a lot of low hanging fruit for the LDP. The biggest I see on election day would be Voluntary voting. Shouting out "If you'd rather be at the pub vote for the LDP, the only party that supports Voluntary voting" would win over a few people.

Here are some election day slogans that will win over people:
Less Tax
Simpler tax system
No compulsory voting
No smoking bans
Free speech
Looser and more uniform speed limits
I'm also tempted to suggest the LDP proudly proclaim, a'la Kevin Rudd, that they "scrap Workchoices".
The only difference being that the LDP doesn't need to replace Workchoices wiht anything and the ALP want to replace it with more regulations

Happy to see you back in blogging mode. I am interested in some of the things that the LDP stand for. I think that the Australian Tax system is stifling and the basic philosophy of taking less from people and let them make choices ring true. I can remember filling out my tax return in Singapore. It was about 10 lines and the refund came in a week. Simplifying the tax system here is a big vote winner. Even my wife who works for the ATO cannot believe how complex the requirements are.

Good to see you're back finally.
I enjoyed the drug debate, some good points. I'd suggest better moderation of that forum though, so much personal abuse. It brings the tone down.

Thos activities you mentioned only affect the person who chooses to them. Smoking affects all those around them - that's the key difference. I support your right to smoke in a place where only you are affected - this is clearly different to a public place. Separately if people choose to take up high risk activiies then they should also bear the brunt of any future health related costs don't you think (user pays)?

You have never heard of walking away or not going to the pub?
