Hey Pommy,
Sorry to burst your bubble but are you comparing oranges to oranges or oranges to apples????? You are being a bit misleading here. You should be looking at comparable countries. Can a developed economy like Australia be comparable to a country in South America????

Trebby - yes. Why on earth not? What do you think is preventing most South American economies from developing?

Now Now Pommy, don't be a naughty boy, you seem to be confusing cause and effect. The poorest countries are socalist BECAUSE poor people like the idea of socalism better, not because socalism helps to keep countries poor. Surely you could see that.

I hope that was sarcasm.

Pommy, nice charts! Keep up the good work.
I wonder why it is that "right wing" and/or libertarian viewpoints are largely based on observable facts, whereas left wing ideas are all about what "should" happen, rather than taking a good look at what actually happens.

Also, you can have hours of fun playing with UN data on the Gapminder site. Details, including an excellent explanatory video by the author, are here.

Sorry Terje, it wasn't. Why wouldn't poor people like the idea of a philopshy that would get them into a better finincal position, or one that says it will get them in a better finincal position.

Even if that philosophy actually makes them worse off?
I think you're being a wee bit patronising of 'poor people'. they do have brains, you know.

How am I being patronising of poor people? Surely it isn't patronising to think that they would want a better finincal position in life.

I think you've misunderstood AKP Pommy, I don't think he's being patronising. Having spent some of my life living amongst poor [communist] people I understand their priorities. They are different in their outlook.

Just wondering how "Social and Income Equality" can be claimed for counties like China and India (the biggest democracy and never socialist)? Both have such extreme poor and rich. Also wow is China the same colour as the US?
Not denying whatever the stats the graph might be based on just wondering about conlusions that might be drawn...
