Dave,
I notice that your posts have been centered on race quite a bit lately. I am not knocking it. I think it's great that a "neo-con" is venturing into this long unchartered territory.
Absolutely agree with you that the "liberals" to whom you refer are incredibly racist and small-minded. I wonder, however, if your focus and frustration with the race issue is very much tied to the fact that, as a white guy, you probably haven't experienced much racism in your life. That is, until your adopted daughter open your eyes to the world she lives in and, by extension, you must now live in.
Whites have the luxury of living in a state of oblivion regarding the ugliness of racism (except when they want to wax poetic about Blacks who are racist) because it is highly unlikely they will ever be refused service or denied a job because of their skin color. That is real racism and it is incredibly destructive.

Sure, you are right. I see it and experience it.
I recall riding in a 76 Mercury, chewing on the soft green dashboard, through town with my REDNECK grandmother as she said "DAMN HEATHEN N**GR" to people of color who were driving in a way that annoyed her. I was 4 years old at the time, and I went home and asked my mother what she said, especially heathen (because I had an inkling what the other two words were). Mom explained to me that I am never to use the N word because it was a bad name.
The next time we were out and she said that I asked: "Granny, how do you know they don't go to church?" You can imagine the shock from granny.
I guess it all started there, the breaking from my "heritage" of dusty-bible southern racist democrats.
Later while out with friends I saw the whites who ignored blacks. Whites that walked in front of my black friends that would never dream of doing that to me without at least an "excuse me" but did it to them without a second glance.
Now I get it on both fronts, you should see the black girls at McDonald's expression when I walk in alone with daughter. I know they are thinking "Some sister slept with THAT WHITE BOY?" This is because adoption is rarely first in the mind of the typical African American.
I don't even want to mention what happens to my wife when she is alone. It angers me to some extent. But it reveals our society's faults and prejudice.

LOL about McDonalds.
I admire your willingness to take on that challenge. I am sure you and your wife have grown immensely already and it's apparent you are wonderful parents to your daughter. How did your family respond?
