As someone that WAS one of those Marines, I am bitterly torn on this whole thing...
Marines FIGHT, that's what we do, and the Military isn't being allowed to actually fight in Iraq, all we're doing is HOLDING.. And trying to keep insurgency down...
My opinion is we either kick it in gear and put enough troops in Iraq to actually SEAL the borders and STOP the influx of men and materials and then we ferret out every Insurgent in the country and take em out...
Or, we just turn around and walk off...
Personally, I prefer to kick ass and take names but I think that line of thought is antiquated in our PC military today...

Texas, thank you for your service to our country!
I have 3 great friends who also served as Marines. They are in total agreement with what you said. One of them made direct comments to me about this PBS exchange along the same lines I made here.
We will not have a secure Iraq until we secure the Syrian and Iranian borders. Period. We can't do that without more soldiers. Period.
Aside from those huge problems, guys like you have done a great job over there with what you are given.
IF the interview reflects a larger thought than your comments really do reflect the Marine thought while Army brass is pulling back and waste the lives given. That is what I am ranting against: the weak and short sighted pull out argument.
