Why can't they have one? It's a sovereign nation. No other country has the right to tell us what weapons we can and can't have.

While I may think my rationale is self-evident clearly you believe otherwise. Therefore I'll ask:
Why should it be acceptable to let Iran have nukes?

Because it is a sovereign nation and every nation has the right to acquire weaponry if it so chooses. I don't get to decide if my neighbor can own a gun or not, even if I fear (legitimately or not) that he's planning to shoot me.

Did your neighbor take you hostage? Did he tell you that the guy across the street doesn't deserve his home and needs to move to Europe?
Does your neighbor obey the laws? Does he respect his neighbors right to live?
Iran doesn't answer any of these questions in a positive way. I'd feel more comfortable giving a room full of children loaded weapons than to give the Iranians nukes.
I can tell the children to behave and not pull the trigger because they will listen. Iran does not behave.
Iran looks a lot like Hitler's Germany to me right now. Should Hitler have had nukes?

Iran and Hitler's Germany are nothing alike so the comparison does not work. Ask a Jew who survived the Holocaust and a Jew from Iran to tell their stories and they will be nothing alike. Enough of abusing history.
The hostage crisis was how long ago? And what has happened in the interim? Nothing. Indeed, after the hostage crisis, Ollie North was selling arms to Iran and what was his punishment? He's an anchor on Faux news.
If you are referring to Iran's president's comments about Israel, let Israel worry about Israel and America about America. Geez - Israel has one of the best militaries in the world. It can take care of itself. The obsession over the security of a foreign nation is puzzling.
If my neighbor is a KKK member who hates non-white people, thinks we should be killed or, at best, moved to another country, do I get to prevent him from owning guns? No.

Big sigh...
What is the difference in abusing history and referencing it? Do Prez AM's comments regarding Israel and Jews not earn the right for me to compare him to Hitler?
Do you not understand what our country's pledge to defend Israel ultimately means? It means we have to be against a country whose elected leader has proclaimed that it should be wiped off the map!
I still like you II, just that nothing you tell me will make me think that Iran is a mature and stable country who deserves to have nukes. I choose those descriptive words carefully.
If you step back from your argument, you might see where I am coming from?

Just because someone says something derogatory about Jews does not make them comparable to Hitler. If the Prez of Iran starts rounding up Jews and sending them to camps, then the comparison will be apt.
I didn't realize that being "mature and stable" was the prerequisite to being allowed to have nukes. North Korea is neither mature nor stable, but the US hasn't threatened to blow it off the map.
America has a pledge to defend Israel? Why? Like I said before, Israel is a big boy. It can take care of itself. All this hysteria is much ado about nothing.

The same as our pledge to defend Taiwan: it is a responsibility our nation pledged and we honor (most) of those kind of pledges (ahem, Bush Sr. and the Kurds being a NOTABLE dishonor).
You know, in hindsight I shouldn't have argued the gun to nuke analgy. They really are not the same thing: pull the trigger and kill one to a dozen versus thousands to millions. NOT an apt metaphor. Also, your neighbor has citizenship and rights here under our standards and laws. There really are no standards and laws in country-to-country interaction.
I too agree that Kim Jong with nukes is at best terrifying. We should take them from him forcibly, period.
Just as we shouldn't allow Iran to have them.
You still have not shown me why Iran DESERVES to have nukes, only counter pointed my reasons why they shoudn't.

That's because there is no standard anywhere that imposes an affirmative obligation on any nation to prove it "deserves" nukes.

Again,
Why do you think Iran should have nukes.
Iran previously agreed to the NPT as a signatory. They put themselves in this position voluntarily.
