the surviving pichi is not nameless, his name is Quiquito, which is a particular nickname of the author himself.

The novel was written in a matter of days, heavily lubricated by cocaine use, as is evident on page 112 between the author himself and his imaginary half-self:
"y esto que es...? -pregunto
-nada, un remedio para la sinusitus.
-y asi te lo pones? -quiso saber.
-si... porque es mejor, mas directo."

and finished before the end of the war.
