The 'idea of cinema' essay is really interesting, and I have been meaning for a long time to write a response. I might do soon.
In the mean time, I just found a small booklet on Russian cinema of the 80s and 90s that seems to engage with a lot of the themes you are discussing there: Seth Graham (ed.) Necrorealism (Pittsburgh, 2001). You can download a pdf from this page.
