About a week ago I got in to a heated e-mail for e-mail discussion with a young man after reading his blog and he is claiming that the Iraq war was invented and he knew a lot about politics from school and the media. He said a few choice words and it angered me a bit. Here is what I wrote back to him:
First of all how was Iraq invented? Tell me that. Where do you get your information from? I have a feeling I know where. The problem here is that there will always be people like you, the ANTI EVERYTHING GROUP, angry about everything, complain about everything yet at 23 years old YOU and others like you claim to know everything. I know a lot more about this war than you Mr. History buff. By no means am I pounding my chest here but understand that I served during Operation Desert Storm, Operation Determined Resolve, Desert Fox to name a few so I understand what you may not. I have been all around the world learning first hand from different cultures their political and social views. I am in the military now as well as a Reservist so I know more than I am allowed to talk about to people like yourself who want immediate answers to several questions than in many cases are not answered due to classified information. One example is WMD. You, don't know anything except from what you hear from the media. The media? If you knew even a portion of what a lot of the people that really do know what's going on, you would not think the way you think. Unfortunately you and others like you will continue to speculate on issues that you have no factual foundation. CNN and John Stewart and the rest of the liberal left know only what they know by reading or agreeing with the mainstream because it sounds good. By reading your blog and what you wrote in it, I can tell you this, you are a young well educated (by teachings and books alone, no experience) college graduate and nothing more. You have no experience in this matter at all, you don't have real life experience yet and you know only what you read in either your school, the media or wherever else you get your information. You can't win the argument so try as you may you know nothing with substance! Check mate, go back to your reading young man.
I received this forward in an e-mail and I agree 100%Paul Harvey says: I don't believe in Santa Claus, but I'm not going to sue somebody for singing a Ho-Ho-Ho song in December. I don't agree with Darwin, but I didn't go out and hire a lawyer when my high school teacher taught his theory of evolution. Life, liberty or your pursuit of happiness will not be endangered because someone says a 30-second prayer before a football game. So what's the big deal? It's not like somebody is up there reading the entire book of Acts. They're just talking to a God they believe in and asking him to grant safety to the players on the field and the fans going home from the game. "But it's a Christian prayer," some will argue. Yes, and this is the United States of America, a c

i'm not exactly sure what your point is although it sounds like it had some bearing on what i posted...
now in my later 50's, i served in vietnam and have been all over the world, and am still an avid traveler... i teach part-time in graduate school and have consulted with officials in various countries up to and including cabinet ministers... i am well-read, thoroughly informed, and believe i have a pretty good ability to form opinions on national and world events... i am not "anti-everything..." in fact, far from it... i care passionately about many things, not the least of which is my country... the things i choose to post and the comments that accompany them are reflective of that deep passion...
i am pained, deeply pained, to see what my country has become... i would like nothing more than to see our path turn once again to compassion, truth, honesty, and enlightened global leadership... there are a lot of people in this world who desperately want to believe that we are indeed the "shining city on the hill..." i would like to prove them right...
