heels, sox & steelers

Gravatar what the crap?

Monday 31st? 6:45 a.m.? Did I miss something?

Gravatar Blogger,

I usually write this stuff the night before, and post it for the next day. So in the spirit of full disclosure, it should be Sunday 30th, 10:00 p.m.

Gravatar This kind of goofy writing is what happens when I can't watch the Steelers on Sunday.

Fortunately, there is only one more Monday game.

Gravatar Fortunatly? I know it sucks for them to only have 6 days until their next game, but unless the game is on Monday I have no guarantee of watching it. Being in Oklahoma has disadvantages for a Steelers' fan.

Gravatar Blogger, I am not going to debate you about disadvantages of location, except to say that I am seven hours ahead of US Eastern Time, so tonight my game starts at 4 AM and ends after I am supposed to be at work.

However, my comment above referred to Ryan's "goofy writing" comment. Not to anything germane to football.

Gravatar In watching the sunday night game last night, I was amused by the marquee players listed for Monday Night Football.

"Join us as Ben Roethlisberger of the Steelers square off against Jamal Lewis and the Ravens!"

hah!

And then I thought about it, who else are they going to put in there? Terrell Suggs? Chris McAllister?

Reed, Lewis, Boller (okay, another laugh) are gone and Wright doesnt have the namesake to get him a guest speaker invitation at a highschool.

Gravatar I'm licking my chops just having visions of that final scoreboard.

38-6? Doesn't sound do bad

Gravatar i missed this last week but thought it was a nice article. the indiana jones reference makes me chuckle every time i think about it.

Gravatar I think you missed the point on the Steelers QB situation. It's not that a team JUST needs to be able to run effectively to create a passing game. It's that they need to be able to protect the QB as well.

The Steelers do a great job of that. They protect their QB with a strong offensive line. On top of that they have a good running game that keeps defenses from being able to commit guys deep in the secondary.

With that combination, a passer has a lot of time to throw and his recievers have a lot of space in which to get open.

As I said, just about anyone who's halfway competant should be able to succeed in that set up.

The Ravens don't have that at all. Our running this year sucks. Our o-line is a joke. So we could put John Unitas back behind center this year and he'd get flatted every other play.

What I'm saying about Rotherlsburger (I still don't care how you spell that) is that he doesn't have the tools to excel on a team that's more pass oriented. For instance if he was sent to Green Bay, he'd be terrible.

What the guy is though, is a great fit for a team designed the way the STeelers are. However, if either the pass protection or running game of the Steelers can be nuetralized, Big Ben is going to have a hard time making things work on his own.

That all being said, I find it hard to believe the Ravens have what it'll take tonight to dismantle any part of the Steelers. They are too banged up to create enough problems on defense to disrupt the Steelers game plan.

Gravatar Last I checked some guy named Ben had legs under him that he frequently used to carry him out of the pocket when plays broke down.

And last I checked he had very decent numbers on the run.

Who is that, anyway?

Gravatar Oh, and the terms "Effective" and "17-1" are not synonymous.
