Gravatar Can Jeremy Bloom play left tackle?

http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/0...1/845874- 66.stm

Gravatar Let the Trai Essex era begin...but...

we do have the #1 defense in the league..

http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/0...1/845806- 66.stm

Gravatar So what happens if Essex goes down? Four-man line?

Gravatar Tyrone Carter plays Center....or wait, Robo Punter entered college as linebacker right? So he may at least have some bulk...

Gravatar Jeremy Bloom? Did I miss something?

I don't like this experimenting. Just put Cedrick on punts and pair him with Ike on kickoffs.

Gravatar Something to be thankful for...

We are not Bengals fans:

Nor Browns fans:

(side note: Why would you want to trade a 'Pro Bowl' QB? Written very sarcastically)

Gravatar One of two things are happening there Israel....

Rossum is either more banged up than we thought, or we are setting up 'return man' competition for next year.

Gravatar Re: Cedric as a return man...he looked very timid to me on returns...

Gravatar By the way, not a big Hockey guy, but this outdoor Hockey game is pretty cool...(is it still hip to say 'cool'?)

Gravatar The Pens game ruled.

Any chance Faneca would play left tackle for a playoff game?

Gravatar Adam,

Tomlin said it was a possibility in today's presser. That immediately brought memories of 2003. Awesome. Hopefully, the Steelers will sign Todd Fordham too.

Gravatar I realize I bring this up all the time but....

Request to the Talking Heads - Do Your Homework.

On NFL Live this afternoon on ESPN, Shaun King commented on the Steeler O-Line woes by saying the the Steelers would have trouble with John Henderson and "Marcus Stroud".....

Shaun! Marcus Stroud is on IR, and has been for a few weeks. I cannot buy you as an analyst if you do not know who's playing.

Gravatar Sarah,

Easy now, you shouldn't comment on players' looks, just their playing talents...oh, wait...I just saw Anna Kournikova and Natalie Gulbis on TV!

Gravatar Placed this in the wrong thread...

Nice article on Silverback:

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news...=yhoo& type=lgns

Gravatar I was about to write that since no one had talked me off the ledge, I did it myself. Then I read the Starks / Essex news and re-opened the window.

Actually, my logic for optimism doesn't change, and it is this. Ben wears number 7 in honor of Elway, and he needs to emulate him in his early years. There were many games back then in which Elway dominated games, seemingly almost singlehandedly carrying the Broncos deep into the postseason. I often forget that Ben is #2 in passer rating and #3 in TDs. To paraphrase SteelerBill from the previous thread: give Ben the keys and let him drive.

Gravatar When was the last time the Steelers were the underdog in a home playoff game? Was it the Raiders and Dolphins games back in 1972?

Gravatar Gretz --

Thought the same thing RE Faneca moving to LT. I don't know about the inner-workings of football well enough to know exactly how easy/hard that would be. My sense is that it would be tough.

Gravatar ELSM,

2005 AFCC (vs Pats)

Gravatar No additional pressure for Coach Tomlin and his Men but according to the PPG:

"The Jaguars are an early 2-point favorite to win. One thing the Steelers do have going for them is history. No opponent has beaten the Steelers twice in Pittsburgh in the same year in the club's 74 previous seasons."

Gravatar Not quite bulletin board material....

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/ne...tory? id=3176517

Gravatar Hell, at this point, I'd be willing to let Sydney Crosby return kickoffs.

Gravatar Ok here I (well not me, them) go again...

Marvel Smith (as you all know)was not 'rested' this weekend. Is it so difficult to do research?

From my friend and yours, Vic Carurrci's Playoff Preview:

http://www.nfl.com/news/story? id...campaign=ec0005

"The Steelers kept four of their best players -- quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, wide receiver Hines Ward, safety Troy Polamalu, and offensive tackle Marvel Smith -- on the bench to help make sure they will be as healthy as possible for the playoffs."

Gravatar Men....

Do you realize that it is one thing for us to be down on the Steelers (we have high expectations) but NOBODY, and I mean NOBODY expects us to win?

It's almost as if we are just providing the field for Jax to play on..

Two words for you 'Big Ben'

SteelerBill | 01.01.08 - 11:38 pm

Couldn't agree more SteelerBill. Can't remember which talking head it was, but someone said 'well, the Steelers do have a chance, that's why they play the games.' So, it seems all the experts are in agreement and the Steelers only chance is an any given Sunday way, or in this case Saturday.

I have been torn all season with all the anointing of New England as the greatest team ever, and how it seems to be their year, and hoping that there is some shot that the Steelers take the Patriots out of the play-offs. I wouldn't even care about the Super Bowl if that happened.

Gravatar Also, if Bloom can catch the ball, secure the ball, then run a little with the ball on punt or kick returns I am all for him. And he is a handsome man, Sarah, and my gf, have convinced me of that.

Gravatar So I don't incur wrath from posting a non-draft project question in the latest thread, I'll just post here and hope that someone sees it...

Though it's the end of the season, here's a useful site for seeing which NFL games are shown in each area of the US: http://the506.com/nflmaps/

Gravatar Active roster additions are Capizzi and some OL named Parquet (pronounced like the floor or the fake butter?).

The fashion model team gets an upgrade, too.

http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/ 0...id=steelers.xml

Gravatar Meant "and" not or, in pronounced like the floor and the fake butter?

Gravatar David, good call on the Pats AFCCG. I think we might have been underdogs against the Broncos in the AFCCG at home, too. Hopefully this weekend will turn out better than those games.

Gravatar Yes David if you like Kournikova et al...go check Tatiana Golovin...plumbers don't wear their briefs any lower than she does.
And yes, Bloom is quite the handsome dude.
But honestly, I just want him to pick up some yardage on Saturday.

Gravatar And OT but as for the Pens-Buff game..nice spectacle and loved the retro unis, but that game was a knee/ankle injury waiting to happen. With the injury bug the Pens have had I was nervous the whole game.
Anytime you have to repair the playing surface 15 times, it may be time go back indoors....

Gravatar Tatiana Golovin - Yuck! Good thing I'm quick to click, that face almost broke my MacBook display.

As for Mr. Bloom, I think "cute" works better than "handsome". I mean, don't you need a certain, uh, stature to qualify for "handsome"? Regardless I hope he can catch. Even if he doesn't know how to run, just catching and holding on will be an upgrade.

On the playoff game, this team has played flat and uninspired, so much so that I can no longer tell if our problems are personnel or game planning. Which Steelers are going to show up on Saturday night?

Gravatar Yeah will the real Stillers please stand up?

I hope they've read enough clippings about how they don't have a chance that they come out fired up.

But honestly the D-rankings should be divided into
Before-Injuries and After-Injuries.

After...it hasn't been pretty...

Gravatar No opponent has beaten the Steelers twice in Pittsburgh in the same year in the club's 74 previous seasons.

That may be the case with many teams. How often do you even face a team twice in the same year at home?

Gravatar SpaceMonkey - you looked at Golovin's face?
Perhaps there is hope for you men after all...
:-D

Gravatar > That may be the case with many teams. How often do you even face a team twice in the same year at home?

The Steelers have only been in such a situation (having to avenge a regular-season home loss in a playoff home game) twice, with Baltimore in 2001 and Houston in 1978. So no, it doesn't come up very often.

Gravatar Really, I wouldn't be surprised by anything on Saturday night. The Steelers could lose by 3 touchdowns, win by 3 touchdowns or win a or lose a close game and it wouldn't surprise me.
Does Starks' injury make resigning him more likely? I think so.

Gravatar Cols, I think they must re-sign Starks. Even back-up help on the O-line is hard to find--and expensive. Heck, there's only a handful of teams not hungry for offensive lineman. (What do you bet someone out there will be desperate enough to sign Faneca for $8 mil a year or whatever nutz-o number he's looking for.)

And this should probably be posted on Ryan's draft project, but I think the Steelers are in danger of over-reaching for a lineman if they pick one in the first round. Odds are the best ones will be long gone by the time the Steelers get their first pick. Unless they can get the guy they truly want, they should forget about it and hope to get lucky later.

Gravatar I saw a LT, Long was his name I think, for Michigan yesterday who was pretty darn good. I'm sure he'll be long gone by the time we pick.

And did anyone catch NFL Total Access yesterday? A guy, I can't remember who, for JAC kept insisting they are the underdogs Sat. Previous win at Heinz, injuries, odds, it didn't matter. He said they are not the favorites. What a putz. When did JAC turn into NE?

Gravatar > A guy, I can't remember who, for JAC kept insisting they are the underdogs Sat.

Maybe Fred Taylor, in between bitching about the Heinz Field turf?

Gravatar Jake Long is the OT from U of M. LaMarr Woodley's former teammate. He is expected to be taken at the top of the draft.

Gravatar Amazingly, tickets are still available for the game through Ticketmaster's resale site. And the prices aren't astronomical. If you can make it, I wish I were you...

http://teamexchange.ticketmaster...=07PLYOFF& CNTX=

Gravatar SteelerBill,

Yep, that's him. Drafting him is a no-brainer. Of course, I thought drafting Brian Bosworth was a no-brainer too.

Gravatar ELSM,

That's interesting.

Adam, can you make it? I'd feel a lot better if you could use some of your home-attendance luck on this game.

Gravatar I will be in attendance on Saturday night.

Gravatar On Stan Savran's Sportsbeat this evening Paul Alexander reported that on Monday, when the Steelers arrived at the facility, every TV was showing the first Jax game on a continuous loop, no commercials.

The players, according to the report, were unable to change the channel.

Gravatar Never heard of anyone doing that before. Mark me down as more confident now that Mr. Gretz is going to the game. I think the Steelers will put up a good showing. However, I am questioning whether or not they can slow down JAX's running game. Especially considering the fact that they haven't stopped anyone running the ball in the last few games.

Gravatar Over the last three years i'm 8-2, and one of those two was the infamous Tommy Maddox game.

And, yes, I take credit for all of those victories.

Dad and I are planning on heading down early in the day, catching the Pens game in a bar, and then heading over to the stadium.

Is it Saturday yet?

Gravatar My brother will be there and has never seen the Steelers lose in person (with more than a dozen games under his belt). My parents will also be there, having had season tickets from right before the Immaculate Reception through the early 80s. That's adding some good karma to Adam's.

Gravatar Overall at Heinz Field, i'm 21-5, including 3-1 in the playoffs.

So, let's go.

It's my presence, man, it's my presence.

Gravatar Every Tuesday night on WDVE they have a show called Steelers Huddle, it's Tunch Ilkin, Hines Ward, Deshea Townsend, and sometimes a guest from the team.

They'll talk about last weeks game, this weeks game, and whatever other topic they feel is worthy of discussion. As a quick sidebar, Josh Miller used to be a co-host and he was one of the funniest guys i've ever heard, he used to do movie reviews that made Siskel and Ebert look like a pile of crap.

Anyway, right now on the Huddle, Tunch and Deshea are having a debate as to whether or not Pork Chops and Ham are the same thing.

And now they're talking about Members Only Jackets.

Gravatar I was at the Tommy Maddox game. It was the first time my wife went to Heinz Field. We haven't been back. Thanks, Tommy.

I was back in Pittsburgh for the holidays and heard this show. It was after the Rams game and Hines and DeShea were asked to pick their "hands of the game." DeShea picked Ike's interception and Hines picked Washington's TD catch. I have to admit, hearing Washington and Taylor associated with good hands was pretty surreal.
