heels, sox & steelers

Gravatar Nice of you to drop by, Ryan.

Gravatar Holy crap. 3 and out, touchdown denver, Santonio drops the kickoff.

Gravatar Didn't we used to have a football team in this town?

Gravatar 14-0.
Oy.

Gravatar Fumble again. Well, it's just like a very good punt, no?

Gravatar This is almost comical.

Gravatar Santonio needs a bodyguard to pick up his fumbles.

Gravatar Santonio may need a bodyguard to make it back to his car after the game.

Gravatar Ben's passer rating 130.9.

Gravatar Ben's passer rating 130.9.

Gravatar Ced does the punt return. That's so he too can get a second fumble maybe?

Gravatar this is painful. I'm in agony.

reed can't even make a 40 yard field goal

Gravatar This is laughable. Murphy's Law, meet the 2006 Pittsburgh Steelers!

Gravatar Hey, for you guys it's a nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Here it's half past midnight and I'm listening to this silliness.

Again.

Gravatar Ben is now at that magic 25 pass attempts where the pundits say the Steelers lose.

Gravatar 92.8.

Gravatar they lose not because Ben throws it 25 times, but because when Ben has to throw so much, the Steelers have fallen behind early. A-->B doesn't mean A causes B, but that's too difficult for announcers to understand.

That said, how unbelievable is it that the Steelers are only down 4? If they can do the same thing the second half sans the fumbles, they're the better team

the defense is pretty good

Gravatar I know, I know, Jesse. I was just saying that the pundits now have their opening.

And of course the fact that they are only down three is the reason they were favored. If they take care of the ball within the norm, they are the better team.

Gravatar Down four, of course.

Gravatar freaking retarded. Townsend cost us a touchdown

Gravatar Pffffft.

Gravatar does anybody else have a headache?

Gravatar yes

Gravatar Parker's having a nice day

Gravatar roethlisberger is punting well today.

Gravatar interception, but it's at the 2 yard line, so it's like a really, really good punt, and you never convert on 3rd and 19

Gravatar a safety would be timely

Gravatar great coverage by ike taylor.

Gravatar we need new tackles.

Gravatar another fumble. I must be dreaming. no, dreams are never this bad

Gravatar There you are Mr. Fumble! I wondered where you went.

Thank god for Marvel Smith

Gravatar stickum is illegal, right?

Gravatar first and goal. let's see if they've learned anything.

Gravatar yup, parker scores

Gravatar You know, I'm all for moving Hines Ward to the offensive line -- maybe, say, right guard if Kendall/Kemo continue to struggle.

Gravatar Ben's passer rating is 77.9, including a punt. Without the punt, it's 91.6.

Gravatar we need a turnover

Gravatar jesse, haven't we suffered enough?!

Gravatar presto, townsend comes up with a pick

Gravatar another good punt.

Gravatar scratch that, it'll be overturned

Gravatar Well, maybe it will interrupt their momentum.

Gravatar yup, they have to punt away, not a big loss all in all

Gravatar I don't get it. When is running into the kicker a penalty and when is it not? I hat the fact that touching the kicker is usually called, but it needs to be consistent. What just happened is usually a penalty.

Gravatar The BEST 2-6 team of all time.

Gravatar I don't think I can stay up this late a third week in a row, not with this kind of play.

Maybe I'll feel differently by the time next week rolls around.

Gravatar Hindsight: Keep ARE. Don't draft Holmes. Execute Cedrick Wilson (who is a whiny bitch by the way) Record= 5-3 at the worst.

Bottom line is we suck a whole bunch. Oh and our corners are terrible. Ike terrible Deshea "stonehands" Townsend. Basically, I have to go to Rip Torn on this one. Watching these guys play "... it's like watching a bunch of retards try to hump a doorknob." I fear the Browns because they may be better. Revised prediciton: not 6-10. We'll be 4-12. We may split with the Browns, and I think we have a random upset against somebody like Baltimore late after they've wrapped up the division. This is the worst Steelers team I've seen in long time. The late 80s come to mind.

Gravatar They look like a 2-6 team. An average 2-6 team.
Cowher keeps saying they are "this close"...apparently to more fumbles and personal fouls and amazing special teams play.
Rawburger (whose curse, I'm convinced, is that his profile shot resembles our dearest Tubby) with over 400 yards is just not a reflection of his game today.
ah well. Hope they can surprise *anyone* this season. On the bright side, pens still looking good (despite loss).

Gravatar I'm willing to lay money that the Steelers out DVOA'd Denver today. That would be the 5th game this season that, by FO metrics (which I trust), they should've won.

The 2006 Pittsburgh Steelers may well be the unluckiest team in the history of the universe. That Hines fumble at the end of the game is the absolute perfect demonstration of the kind of horrible misfortune we've had this whole year.

Right now, I think we go 7-9 or 8-8. We're good enough to be 5-3 or 6-2 the rest of the way, as long as we just have average luck for the rest of the way... kinda like the inverse 2005 Falcons.

Gravatar naguszed,

I agree.

FTID,

How on earth are the Steelers going to win two more games?

Phil Simms/Jim Nantz,

Congrats on being the most worthless announcing team, maybe ever.

Okay, I'm kinda kidding ... well, except for the part about Simms and Nantz

Gravatar Ahhhh....I have nothing....seriously, nothing.

Gravatar I thought I was getting numb to that "how could we possibly be losing this game?" feeling. But, I'm not. I think it's because I keep expecting it to stop. But, after today, it seems like this is just the way things are. Cowher always likes to say that his teams don't know their identity until the middle of the season. I think this team has its identity down cold.

Gravatar Countertorque,

I couldn't agree more. Any time you have to take out your regular kick/punt returner and replace him with Ike Taylor/Cedrick Wilson ... well, that just about says it all.

Gravatar We might get a really good draft pick.

Gravatar Okay,

Here is what I think, which all have been touched upon previously:

1. I'm sick and tired of our CB's. Ike can't cover lobs, Deshea can't catch. You heard it here first: We need to draft a CB in the 1st round.
2. Santonio needs to sleep with the ball.
3. Cedrick is worthless as a WR. Start him as PR, though.
4. Najeh should start as RB. At least he doesn't fumble.
5. Hines is a beast of a blocker.
6. Chidi, Chidi, Chidi!
7. 499 total yards to 336. 6 TO's to 0. What a joke.
8. I'm officially canceling my TeamPass account. I'm sick and tired of not getting live-streaming pre-game.

Gravatar that sucked.

Gravatar It's about expectations for me. I didn't expect to win the Super Bowl again, I thought we would go 10-6 and go a game or two into the playoffs. To be 2-6 with this talent and play like this is disappointing and frustrating.

Half way through the game (I believe that would mean half time) I turned to my buddy and asked if he thought Cowher would truly leave after a season like this - one look at Cowher's face late in the game - well, doesn't look like he'll be back. I just don't see the same fire in him.

Gravatar Cowher won't be back, but there's NO WAY they fire him. He'll leave, Wisenhunt will take over (I hope) and with a few draft picks and fewer fumbles we ought to be pretty good next year

Gravatar If we could've averaged 3.5 or even 4 TO's a game at the turn, we might still have a shot at the division. Hell, you can spot Ben 2 picks a game and stay under that average. In a normal year.

Browns made the wildcard in '02 at 9-7. Don't see it happening for the PS this year.

On the bright side - Brady had 4 picks today. The Evil Empire falls to superior opposition.

Gravatar The Hines Ward fumble at the end of the game is a microcosm of the whole season to me.

For whatever reason, it's just not meant to be this year. The Steelers definitely haven't played to their potential, but they get no breaks whatsoever. Ever.

After falling behind 14-0, the Steelers were never able to get into any sort of rythm. The entire offense seemed forced all day.

I've decided that I'd rather have Baltimore (gulp) win the division than Cincy. I can at least take a little solace in the fact that the Bengals are sinking almost as fast as PBurgh has.

Gravatar I think Cowher comes back next year. He won't leave on this note. And I think a really pissed, really focused Cowher could be a good thing.

I really didn't feel that bummed about this loss, not like I did after the Bengals, Falcons and Raiders games. Anyone else feel that way? i think last week did me in.
