Glad to see a Bruce Davis mention, even though I cannot see it as I do not have FSNP.
People in the last thread were talking about how scary good we could be at LB if Farrior and Silver and Foot keep doing their thing while Woodley and Timmons blossom. I want Davis on that list too, at least as the yappy little guy who stirs up fights for his bigger friends.
But right now, kicking off the season in fine fashion, I am stuck at work for the beginning of the game. And it's the MOST IMPORTANT GAME OF THE YEAR TOO (so far).

Russell does not suck. He was very good playing behind the NFL Europe line. wink.. He got a couple of first downs..looked frisky and he's a load to bring down. He's going to be the short yardage back and RM is going to push FWP for the starting job. I had no idea he was that good! OK..he's not pushing FWP for the starting job but he's going to be a terrific addition.
All in all..not a bad start. I was impressed with Keyaron Fox..looks like a guy who can play on ST's at least..Humpal and Bailey, Madison and Travis Williams had a lot of jump tongiht as well. I hope they can help us get to respectable on the ST's chart.
I liked a few of Ernster's kickoffs..better to kick it out of the end zone than to risk a return. He had a nice night punting as well and didn't bobble the holds. Cool. About as much as you could ask for in a preseason game.
It was basically a running game after Ben retired and Charlie B. left the game. I was so sick of Charlie Casserly by the second series he called that I turned the sound off. Iknow he's been around for years. but he still talks in cliches and even used the old "they come off the bus blitzing" I think I heard that one in the late 60`s the first time..
Tony Hills had no idea where he was most snaps..comical. DD looked very athletic but he's the so slim ..he's gonna get killed out there.
Santonio and Ben are going to score a lot of TD's together this year.

You know, it's Mewelde Moore's fault on Chaz's injury; it was a broken play and Batch decided to scramble. So, here's to hoping the Colts cut Lorenzen and the Steelers move quickly. There's also Aaron Brooks, Daunte Culpepper, Byron Leftwich, and two or three guys sure to be cut from the Bucs any day now.

I wanted Chad Pennington..no chance of that but I have always liked his accuracy. I know he isn't ready to play backup to anyone at this point in his career. My nephew the Dolphin fan will be overjoyed to hear he has a legit NFL QB.
Errrr..I was wondering what Charlie was doing running and putting a shoulder into someone anyway. Just football instincts taking over but its going to make us scramble for a vet. I am sure we'll find someone and hopefully Batch won't be out more than a month.
Did anyone notice Kyle Clement out there tonight? I didn't and was hoping he would make some kind of impact. I was laughing at the Steeler colour guy (Edmund Nelson the old DE for us? Sorry I have never seen a KDKA broadcast before) and his pimping of Ryan McBean..the staff was "high" on him apparently. I don't think so..

According to the 212, Batch wll only be out 4-6 weeks.
I was pretty impressed with the team overall. Seemed like Prince was in a lot more than Clement. I agree that Gary Russell did well with running behind slop. Lentz and Parquet, BTW, are slop. Madison looked out of position a lot.
If we're bringing in Leftwich, does he get cut in 6 weeks?

Also, if St. Pierre was on the roster along with Chaz, Dixon and Potts, would the Steelers still be looking for help? I'd actually be fine with St. Pierre in the backup role for 1.5-2 months.

Oh, and for anyone that plays Madden, the Steelers were rated #4 in the game. Ben is the #4 rated QB, too, under Brady, Manning, and for some reason Palmer.

I'm very happy that Pennington was signed by the Dolphins. We have now dodged the Pennington bullet twice.
Leftwich will be a nice fit and is a guy who understands "run first and often" as an offense. Let's hope he doens't weigh more than Big Snack since he's been out of work for awhile.
Let's hope for Ben to finally play all 16 games this season. I don't want backups to do anything but hold a clipboard.

St. Pierre was the backup in '04. Remember that game in Dallas were Ben had to come out for a couple of plays and St. Pierre had to come in a series?

Batch only out four-to-six weeks? Hmm. As a teenager, I cracked my collarbone and was laid up nearly three months. Lost my job, lost my summer... and it hurt--a lot. Many sleepless nights.

Agreed, Randy. Breaking the collarbone is very painful,Broke mine in high school (yes, kids, they had HS back in the dark ages from whence I sprang) I remember being in a sling for months. Very restricting in terms of range of movement etc. I don't know how bad the break is, mine was pretty bad (hit by a car) and caused me a lot of back trouble as a result of favouring the side of the break.
This could take some time for Batch, will cost him some conditioning.
