I have been eating black wild rice for a long time, just for the great taste, and I had absolutely NO idea about the health benefits! I actually thought that brown rice and even white rice were as good or better. The protein and folic acid amounts alone make me want to include it in my diet every day now, in place of other wheat or white rice foods especially. |

I am wondering if you have any reputable companies to recommend for wild rice. I checked Whole Foods Market and they sell Lundberg brand Wild Rice which I believe is not from the Great Lakes region. I would love any information or direction with regard to this matter as I am anxious to start reeping the benefits of wild rice |

Great question about where to get great 'real' wild rice. As you pointed out, many, if not most, stores sell wild rice grown in California or sometimes China; while these may be wonderful 'real' wild rice products, it is indeed harder to find the very long-grain Great Lakes region wild rice. We have found excellent Great Lakes wild rice at both local natural/organic co-op style stores (here in Seattle we have a chain called PCC), in the bulk dry foods bins(!), and it's very cost-effective this way too as you forgo the packaging etc. We have also seen wonderful gourmet (albeit expensive) true Minnesota and Great Lakes wild rice products via online gourmet purveyors and Amazon.com even (who acts as a sales channel for these gourmet food purveyors), so you can try that as well. |
