This is really good information regarding green tea! I have never read such a complete yet straightforward writing about green teas and now I will definitely buy some matcha tea at my Whole Foods store. Thank you brainready!

Tried the ZenMatcha tea, I agree it is amazing, I threw away my other matcha that I bought at a tea shop (it was bitter and tasted old compared to the Zen Matcha), great recommendation!

Hey all,
Just an FYI - If youre looking for a quick Matcha fix, Jamba Juice does matcha shots in thier drinks...

Thanks Brandy, the only thing about the Jamba Juice matcha is that most of those Jamba drinks are just soooo bad for you! They're pure sugar (don't be fooled by the healthy-looking vibe of the drinks and store demeanor) and anyone drinking those super-sugar-carb-overload drinks is doing their body harm because it spikes your blood sugar levels which causes your body to store fat and crave MORE sugar and carbs, so it's a vicious cycle.
So, it's great that some of these places offer Matcha in their drinks now but try to get it as "straight" as possible...get it either straight with water or ask if they have unsweetened soy milk!
Thanks all --

ZenMatcha is simply matcha from the Japanese company "Aiya" that has been re-packaged. There are dozens of shops carrying Aiya matcha. Aiya matcha is good, but it's certainly not "the best" you can find.

Kevin,
Whoah!!! Hold on there....what you just posted regarding ZenMatcha being the same as Aiya matcha is FALSE! I am not sure where you received that information Kevin, but as the Founder/Owner of ZenMatcha I should know where my matcha comes from, and it is definitely not from Aiya.
We actually made a point to source a completely different supply of matcha from a completely different region of Japan. Our tea farmers grow and make our matcha in Aichi prefecture (please read our website), which is the only region in Japan which specializes in the production of matcha. Aiya matcha comes from Uji which is a completely different region; they are also sourcing their matcha from China to lower their costs. We at ZenMatcha, have a strict policy to not source Chinese matcha as the pesticide/herbicide guidelines in China are very loose. We believe that Chinese matcha is not as "clean" as Japanese matcha, and is of a much lower quality. I know the Aiya folks well, and with all due respect, we believe ZenMatcha offers a better, more authentic (Japanese) matcha at a much better price.
We have pulled ZenMatcha out of all the retail stores, as we wanted to sell our ZenMatcha at lower prices in order to make it available to more people. To do this we had to move to the online marketplace, and so we will be launching our online store in approx. 2 weeks. Please check back on our website then - we are going to be selling this amazing tea at much lower prices.
Meantime, feel free to email me directly with any questions at all. If you would like to place a preliminary order for our ZenMatcha just let us know and we would be happy to ship you some.
Best....and of course, Happy Matcha!

I am a matcha lover (not any matcha, but just Zen Matcha)I started to drink Matcha last November (06) and still have my daily drink of Matcha, morning and evening. There is a big health improvement and a great change that I experienced with Matcha tea from Zen Matcha. I did try with a couple different reputable brand as Lupicia (Japan teas) and the Teavana. They both carry Matcha (price is lot more expensive than Zen Matcha, but quality is way less to compare with). The 2.8 oz.tin of Zen Matcha is 32.99 dollars and the .7 oz tin at Lupicia store is 12 dollars. it's 15 dollars different for the same size with ZM. The 1. oz tin at Teavana is 16 dollars. You guys do the math. I wonder how much Zen Matcha will sell us if we order directly from them that way i can order more and have more drinks a day without going broke.

I hear you, however, we have organized our online shipping to be 3 days using FEDEX, so you won't have to wait that long! Hopefully it is worth the short wait to have our ZenMatcha delivered directly to you. Remember, you will be paying MUCH LESS than the prices in stores, even with shipping included. And we will also be offering a REFERRAL opportunity, whereby if you refer us a customer you automatically get a discount on your next ZenMatcha purchase.
Mary, we are working very hard to lower the price of this amazing tea, so everyone can benefit from it.

Naomi,
I've read some customers comments on your website and I do strongly agree with them about the effects of Zen Matcha. As I said, I have tried several different brand for a good Matcha, that included the brand Lupicia and Teavana. I am sorry to say that they are nothing to compare with ZM. I used to have once in awhile a little cup of a good coffee (a couple times a weeks) and everytime I pass by a Starkbuck or Peets coffee shop, I have to stop for a cold Frappucino with lots of cream and caramel on the top. Since I started my ZM (Oct.06) until now, the coffee is not my favor drink anymore, should say I don't want it anymore, not even for a sip! Not only coffee but any other junk foods! Seem like my body is already well fed with plenty of vitamins from ZM. Plus I forgot to mention about the weakness of my right side eye. It was in pain for a long time due to the daily stress at work and family. Please don't laugh at me when i tell you that the sore eye has gone a day after my first real Matcha drink (i don't count the sample i received at the Whole Foods) I did contact Paul at the Brainready.com to let him know the good effect of ZM I experienced to fix my eye problem.
Also I just want to let you know that I am not worried about the few days shipping because i always have plenty of my supplies of ZM available at home. I never waited until the last drop of my daily drink to look for it.
Take care Naomi

Thanks for the article... I'll have to give ZenMatcha a try. I have tried different varieties of matcha, some good, some bad. Also, I've tried EGCG supplements, and like you said, they don't have the same mind-boosting effects as a cup of good matcha.

Naomi,
zenmatcha is nowhere to be found. I ran out of my matcha 2 weeks ago. I cannot wait too long and I went back to the WholeFoods and they told me the Domatcha is exactly the same product as zenmatcha, from the same source. Simply because the company splitted and the tea cannot carry the same name. I have to get some from the store because it's vital for me. Do the WholeFoods give me the right info? The matcha from Do Matcha tastes exactly the same like yours. As I told you before that I have tried it with many different brands and I was not happy with their products, but this one, the DoMatcha has the same excellent taste adn has the same effects on me. For anyone who still waiting for Matcha and you want to try it, I think DoMatcha has a good quality as ZenMatcha. Just in case you guys want to try it right away, you can check it at the WholeFoods stores. The price is 32.99 dollars for a tin of 2.8 oz that can last about one month. Hurry Naomi, one tin lasts me only 4 weeks, sometimes 3 weeks. I am a Matcha addictive!

Dear Mary and all matcha fans....
To clarify: yes, the new DoMatcha brand that is for sale in stores is excellent matcha, and it is true that they have the same Japanese supplier as the "old" ZenMatcha used to have.
ZenMatcha has now sourced a new supplier of matcha tea from Japan, as part of our initiative to bring the cost of this expensive tea down, and make it more available to more people.
This is also why we pulled ZenMatcha out of all retail stores and are moving to the virtual marketplace. We have just re-launched our website under the new domain www.zenmatchatea.com, and we will be selling the new (and much cheaper!) ZenMatcha online soon.
I will be making an announcement and contacting all of our loyal "zen" customers and fans (including you Mary!) to let everyone know as soon as ZenMatcha is available for sale online.
Again, thanks for you patience, and we encourage you to try any/all other brands of high quality matcha.
However, we are firm in our committment that we will be selling ZenMatcha online soon, and we guarantee it will be some of the best matcha in North America at absolutely the best price!
Thanks for your patience and for your love of this amazing beverage.
Happy Matcha, as ever...

What is the average amount of EGCG(in mg) in 1 gram of quality Matcha? Since it’s expensive stuff, I want to use it sparingly but still make sure to get the EGCG-amounts I need
…also, can anybody recommend a reputable online-source of quality Matcha in Europe?

hi anonymous,
i've been looking through all my material as i know there was a test done to reveal the ECGC amount in 1 mg of matcha, to no avail though. I do know that there is approximately 137 times more catechins in matcha then there is in the same amount of steeped green tea. I'll keep looking and will post it when I find it.
You could check out the DoMatcha.com site as there have been a few happy brainready members who have purchased their matcha from there.
let us know if you find out an answer from your end.~

re ECGC in matcha.
I just read a study that stated between 8-16 cups of regular steeped green tea contains about 200mg of epigallocatechin gallate. In matcha terms this would translate to about 1 cup of matcha - using 1/2 to 3/4 teaspoon of matcha as a measure. Check out:

Just want to thank BrainReady for bringing matcha to my attention. I have been using matcha since last December and I drink it everyday!
Just heads up to those who maybe looking for another source for the matcha fix, you can order from www.o-cha.com I have tried ZenMatcha, and was impressed with the product, and then tried to find it locally and was disappointed with the only source that I could find. It was a very pale green color, not as fresh. I been ordering from www.o-cha.com since February, and have been very impressed the quaility of product and service. The best part is their matcha comes directly from Japan. My only disappointment with ZenMatcha, was that I could not order via the web. I know that have been trying to bring in online since the beginning of the year.
Just thought I would pass along another great source of matcha to the rest of the matcha lovers here.

Greetings to all our beloved ZenMatcha fans at Brainready!
This is the ZenMatcha team checking in to give everyone an update on the launch of our much anticipated online shopping cart.
We are running test trials over the next few days, and will be open for business by the end of this week.
So, many thanks to all our patiently waiting (and thirsty) ZenMatcha customers out there...we promise it will be worth the wait. We have fulfilled our company mandate of being able to offer the North American market some of the very best matcha, at absolutely the best prices anywhere. The ZenMatcha team is adamant that, due to it's powerful healing qualities, this rare beverage should be made more affordable and therefore more available to the average consumer.
We believe that being fair and equitable, results in win-win business. We are passionate about helping to heal the planet, one sip at a time!
Be sure to check out our new shopping cart soon at www.zenmatchatea.com.
With regards to the question above regarding EGCG levels in Matcha tea.
There was a study done on matcha that revealed an average level of 54mg EGCG per gram of matcha. This translates to 162 mg EGCG per 3 grams of matcha, which is equivalent to one teaspoon or one serving.
I hope this helps to answer your EGCG question more specifically.
Remember, EGCG is somewhat heat sensitive, so NEVER boil or microwave your matcha for maximum health benefits.
Thanks again to all our loyal "Zen" fans...and we look forward to serving you very soon.

I've been looking online and o-cha.com, and hibiki-an.com also seem like good sources for matcha. I also admit I like the more elegant, traditional look they have rather than the "hipper" look of zenmatcha and domatcha.

Dear Jasmin,
With utmost respect to quality, Hibiki-An and O-Cha are also great, traditional Japanese matcha suppliers. ZenMatcha has tried very hard to maintain a traditional "look" with the original Japanese Kanji "zen" stamp on our labels, while appealing to a more North American market. We are very interested in spreading the "matcha love" here, and introducing this healing tea to more and more consumers who can benefit from it.
We also are proud to maintain that our matcha tea is less expensive than either of the two companies mentioned above.....but the same, if not better, in quality and taste.
ZenMatcha is steadfast in it's promise to provide this authentic tea from Japan to North American consumers at the very best prices anywhere.
We hope you give us a try!

I found one more brand that is very good. It called RoyalMatcha, from Japan and all organics. It's pricey but worth the money. Whoever wants organic matcha can order with Dr. Mercola.
To Naomi,
I try several times to order ZenMatcha but I missed something and could not send my order. It kept asking me to enter something and today i went back again to try and I found that the price is going up.

Dear Mary,
Yes, Royal Matcha looks good, but it is very expensive.
We have had hundreds of people successfully order our ZenMatcha tea online since we launched our shopping cart 6 weeks ago Mary, so I'm not sure why you are having difficulties. Please try again, and be sure to enter Paypal as your method of payment....of course, you need a valid credit card to order from us. You can email me directly at naomi@zenmatchatea.com if you have any further questions.
And we have had to put up our prices by a very small percentage point, to account for the falling U.S. dollar. We are a Canadian based company selling primarily to U.S. customers, so we must make slight adjudstments to account for exchange rates.
We are still confident that our prices are the very lowest anywhere for the quality of matcha we are selling!
I hope this clarifies things, and we look forward to serving you in the future.

Hi all,
I have just got my first order of ZenMatcha via Fedex. It took only 2 days to receive it. It tastes wonderful like ever and a big saving if you are a daily matcha consumer. "Naomi is a Killer!", my daughter said while sipping her matcha latte (with soy milk). Anyone who wish to order Zenmatcha, it's now available online with a great price. I still support Domatcha for their high matcha quality. I support the WholeFoods stores because they introduced me the matcha tea. Naomi, you rock!

I would like to introduce the Apple Cider Vinegar that can bring many health benefits. For those who have blood sugar problem, blood pressures and high in cholesterol, if taken daily the ACV can help to reverse your health condition. Not all ACV were processed the same and offer the same quality. One of the best brand for the organic ACV is Bragg, that can be order online or available at the WholeFoods stores. I have been taken ACV occasionally for the past couple years, when i have some ailments that need to be taken care of. I noticed that my skin has a great improvement in a short period of time when ACV is taken daily basis. Great health to everyone!

Hello, my name is Shiro from Aiya. I enjoy your site very much and am excited to have someone spreading the word on Matcha.
However, I do need to make a correction on your past comment.
Aiya's Matcha is manufactured only in Nishio City in Aichi prefecture and is not from Uji. In fact, Uji is our rival brand as you know they are THE brand for Matcha in Japan.
And Aiya does not import any tea from China to lower cost. We did however expand our Organic plant to China, but that is only for the sake of expansion (since 80% of Nishio plants are already supplying to Aiya).
I believe that Matcha is a very precious tea, and we need to be accurate about Matcha as well as the manufacturers, even if they are competitors in the market.
I appreciate you letting my voice be heard. I love your packaging by the way, and good luck to you!

Dear Armando,
The bamboo whisk or "chasen" is a very special work of art, and so one should indeed take good care of it.
No dishwasher, no microwave, and no harsh detergents! I use an small brush (an old toothbrush will do wonderfully), to clean between the fronds after using it, and then let it sit somewhere (base down) to dry. Or you can suspend it across your matcha tea bowl to try...this works well and doesn't crush the delicate fronds.
There are wonderful little whisk "holders" that you can buy in selected Japanese tea stores....we are in the process of sourcing them, and will have them for sale on our zenmatchatea.com website very soon at a good price.
Thanks for your important question...and as always, Happiest Matcha!

Dear Shiro,
We very much appreciate your informative and clarifying email regarding the source of Aiya's matcha tea. At ZenMatcha, we are now also importing our matcha from the Aichi Prefecture in Japan, as we agree with you that this region produces the best quality and consistency of matcha.
Thank you so much for your compliments on our packaging...we too, are in love with this precious tea, and we feel truly honored to be stewarding this Japanese treasure to the North American market.
We wish you all the very best, as we collaborate to share this health promoting beverage with the world.

One thing that is missing from all this accolade for green tea/matcha green tea etc etc is the flouride contents of the tea. Did any of the vendors list/check that ? In the article it kind of boosted of this Matcha tea having Flouride, but as I have read in other places, Flouride is proven to be bad for the health.
Can someone recommend where we can get the Flouride free green organic green tea ?
Also does anyone have comments on myflavia.com tea products. We have that in our workplace, but I am worried about the platic sackets that the hot water has to seep through to brew the tea. Hot water any any kind of platic doesn't mix well as you know there is always leaching of platic chemicals. I have contacted them some time ago but they didn't reply yet leading me to beleive that they have something to hide---

I'm sure Zenmacha is great, but it is not the only high quality matcha on the market. I buy organic matcha from the brand Keiko. on the website www.qualitytaste.be you can find some more info on this.

Two questions re: the miracle-sounding green tea:
1. Is it a stimulant?
If so, the temporary "high" will have detrimental effects in the long run;-(.
2. Does BrainReady receive a percentage for referring people to the website?
If so, real or not, it would appear to be a conflict of interest.

Hello, I am so happy I found BrainReady's article about matcha. There is a lot of misleading information out there regarding matcha. Thank you.
I have a question about matcha whisks. I just bought one locally. After the first time I used it I noticed that the center fronds were no longer tightly bunched together like I normally see in pictures, but are now sticking straight out, making a smaller circle within the larger circle of outer fronds. Will this affect the effectiveness of my new whisk? Is my whisk defective? Please let me know. Thanks.

Gerry,
Here is the reply to your questions.
1) green tea and other teas are not the "miracle-sound" thing. just like other kind of healthy foods people consume everyday, the good teas do good for the body. do you own a computer? use it for your own good. do some research to know better the world you are living in.
2)Brainready is a website owned by a group of people who are sharing their knowledge and helping people to a better living. Like most of people here in the forum, I do very much appreciate the Brainready team for providing us many precious information to a good health, adn i am respectful for their wisdom, speciall Paul.
Dear Gerry, life is not all about interests and money. There are more important things we need to learn and to appreciate

Greetings everyone!
This is Naomi, the owner of ZenMatchatea.com. Firstly I would like to thank Mary Nguyen for her heartfelt and honest remarks. She is right, money should not be the highest form of motivation. It is certainly not for Brainready and not for ZenMatcha...that I know for sure.
We are here to help facilitate health, healing and happiness on the planet. We all know that money is a form of abundance that flows in a sustainable fashion only when indiviudals/companies/organizations are aligned with truth.
At ZenMatcha we walk our talk. Our primary motive is to help and to serve, and we require money in order to do this effectively. It is a fine balance. As a business owner, I know this well.
I will say that the folks at Brainready are also similarly aligned. They are honest, incredibly well-intentioned and believe in conducting win-win business, at nobody's expense.
Lastly, I must reply to Gerry....I have never paid Brainready a cent for any endorsement for our ZenMatcha tea. They have offered it to us out of the goodness of their hearts, and that is so rare and so powerful. May Brainready be an example to us all of what conscious capitalism is all about.
So please accept this gift from us, and trust that we have only your best interests at heart.
Matcha tea is certainly not a panacea for all the ails you, however it is an incredibly healing beverage that has been time-tested for literally thousands of years. It has an authentically healing energy about it...one that is hard to describe. Matcha is a powerful elixir, both physically and metaphysically.
Blessings to all and may we continue to strive for truth, inner and outer health, and peace on the planet.

In answer to your question regarding matcha and it's so-called "stimulant" effect. Please check out our website at www.zenmatchatea.com for a detailed explanation of the unique form of caffeine delivery that matcha offers.
In a nutshell, matcha is NOT an artificial "high". Matcha tea is unique in that it imparts a healthy, sustainable form of energy that is actually good for you!
Unlike all other energy beverages now on the market, Matcha stands apart in they way it energizes. It relaxes, calms and energizes all at once. It also offers incredible health benefits while lowering stress.
Please check out the info posted on our website and don't hesitate to contact me personally with any further questions.

The overlord left, the lights were on, and the opera was end. Desolation that the show suddenly sounded, it was much hidden bitterness. Once love, that year the innocent eyes clear, there are no words to tears to flow in mind, arm-in-arm of the first love, think the hero gold, listen when love has become the first events of the past. I feel it is very miserable, but I can still smile.

This seems like a great article. The link to DoMatcha is broken -- goes to some affiliate site rather than DoMatcha's site. That, along with your request at the end that you let the two Matcha vendors know that we heard about them from you, makes me think that you're getting a percentage for the referrals, which is fine, but maybe you should disclose this info. Finding out in an indirect way (the broken link) makes the whole article lose a bit of legitimacy, even though it seems like great info.
You don't have to publish this comment, obviously, maybe just fix the broken link. Thanks for the nice write-up on Matcha!

I love Matcha and it's probably one of my favorite rituals. I think a lot of the appeal is in the taste and the experience. It becomes (wonderfully) habitual. But I seriously doubt it's 137 times healthier (137 times more antioxidants)that green tea. I wonder what kind of green tea the study used... probably some year old bag of Lipton sitting on a grocery shelf. Walk into a tea shop in any city in China or Japan and buy a high quality green tea.

.... and you'll probably get close to the same health benefits. I like both actually. The Matcha is a way better overall experience, but I still love my loose leaf green tea from China or Japan, and I think it's pretty darned packed with antioxidants. But yeah, stay away from the generic tea bags.

the 137 times refers to the EGCG content in matcha compared to regular green tea that is steeped. email me at info@domatcha.com and i will send you the study. All tea is great, green tea black tea oolong, matcha... but matcha for the health benefits beats all others simply for the fact that you ingest the entire tea leaf.
