This is SO timely: My grandfather (90) had a bout with dementia last year, and a primary cause WAS dehydration. After getting medical care (hydration via IV), He's upped his water intake and has stayed relatively sharp ever since. Water really does make a difference.

Nice article

This is a very nice post, and I want to see how others react to this.

And what about frozen berries???

Or blueberry preserves with no sugar added (just concentrated grape juice and pectin).

Hello Peter, all --

Great question regarding frozen berries and other forms such as preserves! Fortunately, frozen berries are indeed another viable way to incorporate berries such as blueberries all year long, and often for a comparative cost savings; while fresh, organic berries will always provide the maximum benefits of a given berry, and while there is some debate regarding freezing and other processing of berries impacting the nutritional properties, there is enough evidence that in the case of freezing, much or most of the health properties are indeed retained. So it's certainly far better (per our article) to incorporate berries in whatever form you can get them in compared to skipping them (as many people do when the fresh ones aren't readily available or too expensive).

Preserves can be tricky, however, as it can be hard to find preserves that contain 100% berries with nothing else added, no processing, etc. But they do exist, and per our earlier point, it's still better to "get the berries in whatever form available" than not (unless you're also getting added sugar or chemicals as part of it).

Hope this helps and thanks for asking; we may be updating this article to cover frozen and other forms of berries per several people asking about this
