So, any recommendations on a good espresso machine to purchase for home use then?

I use the Capresso Jura series - they grind beans, pack it, brew it, and clean up. A little pricey, but the convenience means that you'll use it more than those manual machines, saving you coffee shop runs.

Mine makes a good 6 shots a day (between my wife and myself) and has gone strong for over 2 years. My previous one went for 3 years, which is pretty dang good.

what about acrylamides in coffee?

The links on this page attach to a lot of interesting studies on Acrylamides, but it is difficult to say whether there is a concrete decision on the matter.

what is wrong with adding fat free milk to espressos in cappuccinos?

I agree "what's wrong with fat free milk and cocoa powder (unsweetened by hersheys) I don't have a weight issue. Don't you still get the coffee benefits anyway?

I loved this article about coffee and espresso. But I have to say that the comment about soy milk was a bit annoying. I understand that there are people who can't tolerate milk, and that there are also people who are avoiding animal products. But, aside from that, skim milk has lots more calcium and protein than soy milk does, less fat, and tastes a whole lot better in coffee! Women in particular need to try and get as much calcium as possible, and dairy products still remain the best source. Why give milk a bad name?

Hi all,

Actually, dairy products are definitely NOT some of the best ways to get calcium...and the "big dairy" industry machine would also have you believe that one should consume multiple servings each day of dairy products such as milk, cheese, and other processed animal fats.

But even more interesting to note is the large amount of recent research showing the adding even a splash of milk to tea or coffee literally NEGATES the antioxidant benefits, as the casein in the dairy binds with the elements and essentially deactivates them. Try Googling on this topic, you'll find many studies and news articles citing this recent learning.

Of course, this doesn't make all soy milk perfect either (in different ways), so...our preference, as always, is to take it straight...pure, nothing else added, as nothing else is needed once you get your brain off the sugar/sweet/carb/dairy rollercoaster!

Best regards,
