BrainReady Blog - Comment

just a message to say thanks for your producing these interesting and fun podcasts. I will be looking forward to your discussion of CATS. PS I have found working with "large" (large for me) numbers say going through the fibbonacci numbers as many as possible, and also performing multiplication in my head excellent mental exercise to say the least - it feels like you are getting a real work out - it makes you sweat- it improves shortterm memory ... etc and you can make it harder as you improve -just like increasing the weight you lift at the gym. Im sure you know all this. Anyway thank you! keep up the good work.

Thanks for the kind words, David...and glad you're enjoying our BrainReady Podcasts!

Funny that you mention "makes you sweat", as this is something we've been hearing over and over again (and experienced ourselves): actually physically *sweating* when doing intense mental activity. As if that's not proof of the muscle-like nature of our brains, and the deep physiological connection between brain and your physical health. One can just picture the brain 'heating up' during intense mental activity (just like a physical workout!), causing the body to produce the cool-down (sweat) response.

Just like physical exercise, mental exercise is truly necessary for optimum health, particularly as we age...

Anyway, thanks again --
