Great article on fishy fats.
I myself have been taking cod liver oil since I was a little child and my daughter also since she was just a few months old. It contains A, D and E vitamins and is also a rich source of omega-3 fatty acids.
Since you say you are always trying something new I decided to recommend to you products from an icelandic company called Lysi.
It's products can be viewed at http://lysi.is/is/english/consum...sumer_products/
and can be purchased from http://www.nordicstore.net/

I eat flax seed oil - organic - on fibre toast instead of butter or in salads...delicious, especially with balsalmic vinegar salt & peppar!
I also take halibut oil suppliments.
What about halibut oil (cold water fish) suppliments?

Great article on the importance of omega-3 fats, particularly the fish oils. As you pointed out, the fish oils can help prevent aging of the brain. They seem to be beneficial in preventing depression and attention problems as well.
Your readers might like to know that in addition to its health benefits, which are numerous, the omega 3's can actually help you lose weight.
They stimulate PPAR receptors to turn on fat-burning enzymes in muscle tissue. This means a boost to metabolism.
Nice site.

Thank you for the great info, Dr. Parsons! Very much appreciated, and yes...in addition to the brain benefits, Omega-3's can indeed also help one lose weight as well as numerous other benefits that we didn't cite (as our story was more brain health-centric).
Hopefully more and more people will incorporate fish such as wild salmon into their daily diets, and consider a fish oil supplement if they aren't able to eat wild salmon and other Omega-3 rich foods regularly; imagine the overall benefit and cost reduction to society at large (no pun intended) if everyone did this!?

I've been hearing about the beneficial health effects of fish oil for years. I'm sure it's all true.
The problem is over-fishing and general marine environment degradation means fewer fish in the store, and at a much higher prices, especially for wild-caught fish.
Does this mean that if we, as a human race, are too stupid to manage fish stalks while enjoying the brain-boosting benifits of fish, then as fish stalks decline, we will become even more brain deficient, leading to the destruction of the human race, or will be become to stupid to cause so much damage?

Perhaps this sounds naive, but I've heard that if you take the fish oil capsules, you will end up smelling fishy. I doubt that this is true, but I figured that you would know for sure.
Thanks!

Instead of taking the fishy capsules (with contaminants in oil such as mercury), why not go straight to where the fish get their fatty-acids -- plants??? Plus it's cheaper, doesn't smell, and doesn't kill disrupt the ecosystem. Algae is how fish get their EFAs. For Omega 3 FFAs, check out flax seed.
However, be aware the connection between these fatty acids and brainpower are tenuous. What is the causative mechanism? How do we know it's FFAs and not something else such as trace minerals?
The connection between FFAs such as Omega 3 has been claimed to cure all sorts of things from obesity to inflammation to lethargy to pretty much anything. Is fish oil really "snake" oil? Hmmm
