Your list of 5 top foods was very informative. Bypassing the obvious mainstays of cruciferous veggies, garlic and onions, ginger and ginseng, and all kinds of nuts, I think that honorable mention should be given to spirulina and chorlella, pee pollen, aloe vera, coconut and muscadines.

Great points there Dave...those are indeed all healthy foods as well, and hence it was a challenge for us to widdle-down the list of foods to just 5 for our Top 5 list

Best regards,

The BrainReady Team

Very informative post. I'll bookmark this page. And I'm glad chocolates and coffee are good for us.

Great article. It's wonderful to know my favorite foods - salmon, blueberries, chocolate, and coffee - are on the list. Now I just need to try some macha!

> My family and I have been using Sambazon acai daily for over 5
> years when it first came on the market and can attest to the fact that it does make a tremendous difference in health and
> attitude! It's so easy to use now with all the great choices. We drink the juice and take the Acai supplement tablets.
> We also frequently drink the smoothies at Planet Smoothie, which are great. My favorite personally is the Acai Juice in the purple bottle, but the sorbet is to die for!

Those in the UK can check out Brighton's Guarana Co. for a supply of Acai and Cocao... they may have others from the list too.

Good info. However, people who prone to kidney stones might have to avoid at least three of the items on your list:

Cacao beans, blueberries and coffee*.

and/or drink lots of water to compensate.

*Foods I love and can no longer eat.

Very informative.. thanks!

I think the top three are ;

1- Hazelnut, most known considerable species are Giresun Quality from Giresun fields ( a northern city of Turkey )
visit the web address below

2- Walnut; Turkish walnuts have an interesting nut shape exactly like brain !!

3- Almond

any input on the goji berry?

If you didn't write in all those bold words I could actually read your article. It's straight up bad journalism to try and provide so much emphasis once or twice per paragraph. It makes me jump to the bold words which aren't necessarily the most important. Keep it to a minimum and you have a good article, otherwise, it's maddeningly impossible to read your otherwise well written pieces.

VERY INTERESTING ABOUT THE 5 BRAIN FOODS I NEED.....TO KNOW BECAUSE SOME TIMES I DEMAGE MY BRAIN WHEN I HAVE A ZEIZURE....AND I HAVE TO TAKE ( DILATIN FOR PROBABLY THE REST OF MY LIFE...>

Could you give your audience some information on Yerba Matte? Thanks

Yeah... whats the story about yerba mate? Im drinking it allmost every day and its great stuff. im sure it would be akin to macha tea. Put it on the page please!

I'm so thrilled to see the Acai berry recognized. And thank you for mentioning the challenge of getting it
processed properly and effectively.
There is a delightful Acai berry based
health beverage available through independent distributors called MONAVIE. Check out the website at: www.mymonavie.com/pamgalloway

I am taking Acai juice from the brand LiquMins that I bought at the WholeFoods store. I am new to the Acai and I just started and wondering if I have got the right brand and the good source of Acai juice from this company. I have been told that not every Acai is real and good quality. Anyone has an idea?

Hi all and thanks for the great feedback and discussion here!

Regarding Yerba Mate, we are indeed working on an upcoming BrainReady health feature that will tell all about this popular South American coffee/tea alternative, which we've tried on numerous occasions ourselves as well.

As a quick preview though, we can say that Yerba Mate does indeed contain numerous (natural) components which possess health properties across a range of areas...and it appears that the only significant "issue", and it's only an issue if it is indeed valid, is that there have been reports of liver toxicity reported in association with frequent/large Yerba Mate consumption. However, one can find different although arguably equal "issues" with consuming large amounts of coffee or tea or even Matcha (or almost anything else for that matter), and given the widespread consumption of Yerba Mate over such a long period of time, moderate consumption of high quality Yerba Mate is likely to be no less safe than coffee.

The earthy/grassy taste is fantastic, and particularly for those who don't like coffee/espresso or teas, this could be a nice alternative.

Before we recommend it though, we're still checking into the liver toxicity reports further just to get as much information on this as possible.

Stay tuned!

I thought I'd give Matcha a try, but the recommended Zenmatcha doesn't seem to be around anymore. Can someone recommend other reliable sources?

Fantastic ! Great article.......thankyou ! I'm a teacher living in Rome, and approaching 50. I've suffered from a range of health problems in the past, and in particular, sometimes all is not quite as it should be "upstairs". This is just the ticket ! Thanks again ! (up the Clarets !)

I was also looking for www.zenmatcha.com (this is the second time I've stumbled on this article, but I had lost the link) and found that the site was down. I did, however, find it with google at www.zenmatchatea.com.

I too am interested in goji berries. The problem with something like these is that without clinical study it's nearly impossible to measure the difference they make, and so I couldn't tell if it helped me at all when I tried it for a month.

That was a great list of foods. I like the points you make about
cheap coffee loaded with artificial sweeteners. I absolutely agree that if one is going to drink coffee it must be high quality to do any good. As for the other foods, they are consistent with the rest of the research I have read.

What scares me is that some of your assertions are so convenient, of the type "this food you didn't think you should eat is actually good for you". When you go against past wisdom, you should present solid evidence. I can't just change my life because you say so. Where are the groundbreaking scientific studies you boast of, double-blind, and not funded by a supplement manufacturer???

What a sceptic, that guy is!

Health is one's most valuable section. So this is valuable for me and for others.

Will taking supplements like Gapa, Gotu Kola prevent mental decline?
