Great blog! I have surprisingly never had curry before. I would like to know more about the essentials to a happy, healthy brain. Can you get Curry at grocery stores? If I were to go to a restaurant which do you prefer? |

What an informative article! Tumeric is certainly a Diet Secret worth knowing about! I do try to add it to my cooking but I like your idea of just mixing it in water and drinking it daily. That in addition to your fish oil, antioxidants, and keeping diabetes away can do amazingly well to fight off Alzheimers’ dementia. Food can indeed be medicine! |

Thanks for weighing in here, Dr. Parsons! |

I have been using 1 tablespoon of tumeric prior to high intensity cardio or lactate inducing weight training workouts, at 33 this seems to have helped give me an amazing training response. I have decreased delayed onset muscle soreness, have become extremely lean, and my strength has actually gone up while dropping from 172 to 155. Something else I have noticed are better concentration, better oral health, and an overall healthier appearance. I have been a competitive athlete for 10 yrs, have tried many nutritional approaches and supplements, this is the 2nd supplement that I have found actually makes a notable difference, the 1st being fish oil. |

To Ryan: I agree, and you are the first person I have heard that also has found a benefit from turmeric/curry powder for workout recovery (soreness, time to recovery, etc.)! Great to read your post and this validates my experience as well. I have been doing the brainready advice thing and mixing some turmeric powder with water and drinking this within about an hour (with dinner) of my weight lifting workouts, and I am positive that this has made a massive improvement in my recovery time AND soreness. Amazing, and that's not even considering the brain health stuff. |

I mix 1 tsp of powdered turmeric with 1 tsp free trade organic cocoa, a 1/4 tsp cinnamon and 1/2 tsp of ginger in my coffee or tea in the morning. I mix up a jar of it ever week, and make it a habit to drink a cup every morning. I use about 2 & 3/4 tsp of the mix every day. I make a paste with it with water in a black mug (it stains) and then add coffee or tea to it, or sometimes I just add hot water and a bit of pure maple syrup. Sometimes I add milk. I've acquired a taste for it and look forward to it in the morning. I don't know if I feel healthier or smarter, but I don't feel lousy either. I've been doing this for about two years now, with periodic breaks every few months or so (When I'll do something different just to mix it up). It is a standby for me though because I life it an believe in it. Oringinally I started taking turmeric when an Indian herbalist recommended it (mixed with warm milk) as a "bone strenghtener". |

adding black pepper may also be useful. I've heard that black pepper (or a compound of black pepper) helps the body to absorb and utilize certain nutrients |

In additon to the above I have had a recent discussion with a someone doing some serious research into substances that inhibit the growth of cancerous tumours. Tumeric is apparently the magic ingredient that they have had the most success with. |
