I have found aromatherapy to be very helpful in exactly the way that this article describes: for relaxation, and also for waking me up in the morning (rosemary & mint products). I believe that the effects are very real. But agree with brainready that it's a big leap to say that aromatherapy can cure diseases and other more significant medical claims that some believe. Glad to see a balanced, sane, realistic yet open view, thanks brainready.

By all counts, aromatherapy is highly effective in boosting mental performance. Though I have not consciously tried it, I've had some vivid experiences. One was just two weeks ago: I had a quiz to take but just didn't have the courage to sit for it. As I was busy tidying stuff up, contemplating whether or not to sit for it, my next-door neighbor happened to dispense some sweet smelling aroma which I don't know its name to this day. Suddenly, I started feeling real good and guess what I was thinking: 'Aromatherapy, this is it!' Instantly, I got motivated to write the quiz and had a swell time doing so. The stuff really works!

Does anyone have any information on whether aromatherapy works if you can't smell the aroma?
