I like that instructor's response!
He does a good job of making it personal. In many ways it is. "...you come to MY house and treat MY family..."
Sometimes, there is a place for the "Drill Instructor" style of teaching...

I don't know about anyone else but if I find myself passing 1 out of 8 I have to wonder if my station is poorly designed and/or if all the relevant material has been gone over prior to testing.
In general I have also found it counterproductive to yell at the entire class. I have ahd much better results with short few minute conferences to look at their results and inquire if they REALLY want what they are studying for.
As usual, your milage may vary, but this is what works for me.

Some people are just iditos. For one reason or another they are not paying attention or just dont think that it deserves their focus. I've been an instructor for a few years over a variey of topics and I have seen students from all areas of the spectrum. I've been in EMS/Fire Service for over 10 years and watched many people come and go. One thing is a constant.. In every class no matter what the size there usually always is a "Get Your Shit Together Speech"
