My Mom and I took cooking classes at the CHIC (Cooking and Hospitality Institute of Chicago). We had a blast, it was easy to park and they have a bunch of stuff to choose from.

Go to the Chopping Block in Lincoln Square (additional location at the Merchandise Mart). Classes are fun. No matter what, make sure you choose an interactive class where you get to learn and cook, not just watch! Great idea, by the way!
