Cob Pile

Seriously, all the city services jobs in the annexed areas will be Fahey's to hand over to his Union supporters. But you dare not speak ill of the Unions.

Other jobs, e.g. trash hauling and the like, will be his to hand out to his business supporters (read cronies, who don't care how you speak of them).

As evidence of the result, here is a blog post from someone affected by the annexation:

Reminds me of Mao Tse Tung marching into Tibet, as if the Chinese needed any more land.

To the Plains Feeder,

You may have proven intelligence 20 years ago upon passing the Bar. However, after reading your website, I am curious how, after 20 years of practicing law, one can render themself lacking intelligence and respect. It behooves you at least to not follow the quid pro quo of class, race, geographic, etc. upon presenting arguments for/against contemporary social circumstance. Doing so merely casts suspect on your character and profession.

I'm curious about what makes you think that practicing law makes anyone anything besides what he or she was before they sat for the bar exam. The profession was already suspect when I joined it. My character has never been a suspect: it is a convict. I have convictions. Behooves me not to what?

I'm 16 year old high school student, and my reaction to this little article of yours was quite bipolar. I seriously thought that an intelligent argument was on the other side of the list of Omaha's problems. But alas, it never formulated, which actually dissapointed me. Today's article on Police in the Omaha World-Herald serves bittersweet (mostly bitter) for your rant. Where Omaha has the most crime, the police response time is the quickest. However the more peaceful and prosperous Western Omaha has a slower response time, which is the only part that helps your arguement about police. I cannot see any real reason why the majority of Elkhorn would rebel against Omaha, save town pride. Sadly enough, I do disagree with the city running everything downtown, but for now I'm ok with it because it needs to be done.

Sorry to let you down, Josh. The rant was meant to be just that - a rant. And the Nuclear Option thing was meant to be sarcastic, maybe humorous. Some folks have compared me to a religious nut or a militia-type. I assure you I am none of these things. I'm not a man with answers, just thoughts.

I don't live in Elkhorn, I don't even live in any of the affected areas. I do, however, have business in Elkhorn and in Omaha every day. I have lived in Bellevue and Gretna as well. And if I was a resident of western Douglas County, I would choose to be annexexed by Elkhorn, rather than Omaha. For a whole raft of reasons; a list that goes back to the fifties, when I lived at 78th and Harney. I have seen the changes. Elkhorn is a better choice.
