Cob Pile

Americans are suckers. We pay taxes, vote for politicians because they promise this or that, trust the government...

Mr P "invented" a style that folk are 'comfortable' with, surreal/nightmarish; that send children scurrying in da4rk places wondering what they did wrong and dreading the Future that "promises."

Some of Picasso's less stupid works are quite good. But you are right, many are just pain ugly. Are you a Bosch fan? I noticed you have one of his paintings on your blog. If so, I have found a kindred spirit.

The Oracle

Bosch and Bruegel, now there were some cats that could draw and paint! Masters of the medieval metaphor.

Maybe PTG, you should stick with the 'paint by numbers' masterpieces. Muh ha ha ha (evil laugh)

I've painted a few.

So...youre sticking it to yourself?

Maybe.

there is no suckerism here, if people have the money to spend on any type of art thats their choice, art is subjective, what you might not like somebody else might spend all the money in the world for. and you are the sucker for not knowing that.

kiki, I never said the suckers that bought Picasso's crappier works weren't happy suckers. Just because a sucker is pleased with himself doesn't make him any less a sucker.

As for the one that suckered him in, he is also naturally happy with the sucker deal. So suckerism isn't the lose-lose situation you seem to abhor. Ask PT Barnum, who made an honest fortune pleasing suckers.

Perhaps you might read this enlightening essay on the psycho-economics of art suckerism.
